Hey all,

Well, after all the questions and posts about the issue with my car, I've decided to just swap out the motor and replace it with another KA24E. The valves are bad in my engine.

Anyway, I was wondering how time consuming it is to take the KA out and put one back in? I have access to an engine lift and all the necessary tools.

I got this info from http://www.srswap.com Is it as easy as they say??

"Disconnect all hoses, wires and cables in the engine bay, and remove the two motor mount nuts. Detach the AC compressor (you will probably have to remove the power steering pump to do this) and secure the compressor out of the way up by the driver's side stock air box location. Remove the radiator, mechanical fan, and fan shroud, and flip the main engine harness over the fender so it is out of the way.

Remove the KA shifter, drain the gear oil out of the transmission, and remove carrier bearing bracket and the driveshaft. Jack up the transmission and remove the 4 cross member bolts. Detach the downpipe from the exhaust manifold, and remove the transmission mount bracket from the cat as well. Remove the entire exhaust and get it out of the way. Using an engine hoist, attach the chain to the head using suitably strong bolts. Drop the transmission using the jack, and pull the engine and transmission out as one unit. Be careful not to damage the power steering rack lines when removing the engine. "

Approximately how long do you think this will take??

Thanks,

Andy

the amoutn of time it could take really depends on how well you know your way around the engine compartment and the condition of the car, whos worked on it in the past and weather they hacked the car at one point damaging fasteners and such. for someone like me it could be pulled out in a couple hours, for the novice [someone who cant identify many components on the engine] it may take a weekend or so.

Oh, ok.

My car is untouched. I think the previous owner money-shifted (3rd to 2nd)the car and messed up the valves.

Anyway, I know my way around cars pretty well. I did most of the work to swap my H22 into my Prelude. I figure a RWD car should be easier.

I can't really say how long it took me to swap the H22 into my car because I spent a lot of time cleaning the engine bay, the motor, painting brackets, and other odds and ends not associated with the actual swap.

Would you say start to finish, 5 hours to pull the motor is a reasonable estimate?? I am not going to be as thorough as I was with my Prelude because I am going to pull out the newer KA soon anyway. It will be a basic pull and reinstall job.

Keep one thing in mind - you're going to have to put a ka back in once you've gotten the old one out. I'm sure you'd have no trouble tearing the old one out in a few hours, but if you don't pay attention to what's going on you're going to have a much harder time putting the new one in. Now, if you're not the one putting the new one in then forget that. In that case 5 hours sounds like plenty of time to me for a ka first-timer.

Yea I think you could have it out in that amount of time no problem. I personally would seperate the trans and engine in the car and leave the trans in. But I have the benifit of a hoist and a 4 ft impact extension. Which makes it much easier to gain access to the bell bolds
