1996 was the first year of Nissan's crisis, when they nearly went out of business, a few years later Renault rescued them.

If you have Gold emblems does that mean it has the "Gold" package

Gold package cars where adminstered through select Infiniti dealers in only major metropolitan areas. The cars had a
gold plated grille, door handles, badging, special floor mats, darker or special interior wood trim and special gold plated BBS rims. All the gold plated parts where supplied by Nissan. In all the years, I've owned my J, I have only come across one other gold package vehicle, identical to mine except for the exterior colour (mine is black, his is emerald green). He used to work as a GM for a Nissan/Infiniti store in Toronto. He can only recall selling 4 or 5 between 1993 and 1994. His store was one of two in the Toronto area authorized to sell gold package J30t's. I think the numbers are very small.

I do know from 1995 to 1997 some dealers sold gold emblem J30's and J30t's. These cars did not have matching gold plated grilles, door handles, floor mats, BBS rims, different interior wood, etc. They simply had a gold emblem.

There was a time when guys used to go to dealers and change all the emblems to gold for a couple of hundred bucks. They had a little mobile machine that could do this with the emblems on the car. Then the dealers would come up with some gold lingo to match a huge price increase.

Make that at least two. The sticker inside the door of our '93 says 5/92. That was one slow boat ride.

The only avenue would be tracing the vehicle to the original dealer and finding out that way. They may have a copy of the original Monroney sticker on file.

The gold plating fades fastest on the door handles. two of mine are looking very silver.

In general, I see very few J's up where I live. Road salt has destroyed so many of them. I year to date, I've seen 3 driving around the Toronto area. One mint, One in fair shape from out of province (British Columbia where cars fair much better) and one rotting out. None where gold package cars.

Are you saying that these cars came from the factory with this gold package or that the dealer did it themselves with something like this:

http://www.goldplating.com/star.htm

My understanding is that the dealers (if authorized by Nissan) ordered the parts through Nissan already plated and then installed them at the dealer, once they received the parts.
