I bought a 2002 QX4 in 2010 that had 116,300 +/- miles. Service records at the time were up to date with no major problems. At 123,000 I replaced the engine due to the power valve screw problem.
Timing belt and water pump around 135,000
Shocks and struts last year 2012 at 144,000 later in 2012 all AC compressor dryer etc, starter in January and now about to replace both front catalytic converters and next radiator/thermostat. Appears there's a leak in the rack and pinion system as well.

How does this maintenance sequence compare to other QX4 owners?

You replaced the timing belt on a VQ engine?

I bought my 2002 new. It is at 92K miles. I replaced rear left shock absorber. It had minor leak but I didn't feel any difference before and after replacement. Shop replaced oil cooler (?) seal/ring due to minor leak. I replaced ntenna. That's all.

VQ3.5 has timing chain.

One of them...have to look at the receipt. Drove MB diesels for years so that function was ingrained. Didn't want to kill the replacement engine...what is the proper procedure for the 3.5?

There is no required timing chain replacement on the 3.5. If I had the engine apart for other reasons,
I'd probably replace it (I'm at 223,000 miles), but I would spend the time/money to do it otherwise.

Wow, that's sucks that you had to do so much.
The power valve screws is an unfortunate incident, and if that had not happened, I think your engine would have been OK, and you would not have had to replace the timing chain(s).
Suspension parts after 10 years is bound to require replacement, in my humble opinion.
I've done struts and shocks on my '02, but considered it normal and part of the ownership process.
Other than that, I have not had any other problems. My A/C still works fine, the cats are original, cooling system is original, and I have no oil leaks.
I've replaced ball joints, wheel bearings, and links in the front end, but again, I consider this normal.
I have 270,000 Kms on it (about 165,000 miles, I think).
Hope this helps.
