Post

Hey all,
I've been a lurker of this site ever since I bought my altima coupe August of 2012. Just never posted anything. I'm a 21 year old college student who's car was recently in an accident. Here a pic of my coupe-(before the accident). It's a 2008 2.5S fully loaded with only 35000 miles.

Here's a picture after the accident.

Since this is my first time dealing with the insurance company I just have a few questions for other members who are more experienced than me. The appraiser will look at the car tomorrow, but I feel like it must be a total loss. What are your opinions? Air bags did go off and the windshield shattered. If it is a loss, how does the insurance company determine the current value of the car if it's so mangled? The insurance company indicated that the settlement amount is negotiable. How do I make sure I get what I think is fair for the value of my car? I do have GAP insurance so is that something I should even be too concerned about? Also, how long does it take for the insurance company to pay off the loan? And how soon there after can I finance a new car? I'm already looking at new ones on the net.
Any helpful input is much appreciated. I apologize in advance for the crooked pictures. They were fine until I posted them thru tiny pic then they became crooked. :(
Thanks again! :dblthumb:

Sadly that does look like a total loss. If you're financing the car then the first thing the insurance does is pay off the loan to the bank. And then depending on your insurance a lot of things could happen. They can help you find another car within the same price range as your old car or just give you a check. I'm sure we have a couple of members here that work in that area so they'll chime in with accurate info.

Sorry for your loss. :frown:

It all comes down to the cost of repairs I was in a similar accident when another driver ran a red light and threw my car into a guard rail but it was not totaled so it all comes down to cost of repairs compared to value of the car. Also depends on the insurance company. And if there is any damage to the actual sub frame of the car. The frame rails for the fenders are replaceable so it depends on how extensive the damage is. That really sucks I totally feel you on that but it's good that you are okay.

Thanks everybody for your input! The adjuster checked out the car yesterday and yes she's totaled :( 18,000 worth of damages and of course that number would only go up once it actually got to the shop. I signed her off to the insurance company yesterday and said my goodbyes. I was planning on taking out all my LED lighting and etc, but got over it by the time I actually got there. Copart was supposed to pick her up yesterday so I will be checking there website looking for her. Thanks again for all your help. Of course I do plan on continuing to creep on the altima coupe forum. :)
