This is pretty cool. Toshiba has adapted the Cell CPU to use as a multithreading coprocessor designed specifically for video encoding. It's really compact, doesn't use much power, and offloads a lot of the work of video encoding from your CPU. It also only needs a 1x PCIE slot.



A Core i5 machine was able to encode the SD version of Star Trek in FIVE MINUTES with the help of this card.

It's neat to see dedicated coprocessing tech like this hitting the market, especially at such decent prices (the PXVC1100 goes for $185).

I figured some of the home theater/media buff NICOnauts might find this interesting.
