ok new dilema.

the only system i can figure is to place a breaker bar on the crank pulley bolt against the ground and use blocks under the engine mounts while its suspended on the hoist low to the ground.

other problem is the fsm specs 105-112 ftlbs my wrench only goes up to 100 so if i use 100ftlbs and blue thread lock am i safe? same deal with the crankshaft pulley.

yes that method should work and yes 100ft/lbs should work. i have zapped enough of them in with an air impact to say iv never had probs. blue loctite is a good idea too.

you the man chris

hey while ive got your attention. do you know of any balancing issues arising from underdrive pulleys or lightweight flywheels?

id like to add an asp pulley and keep the option of a new flywheel open for the next clutch service.

btw no more AC system

all nissans are internally balanced. nevertheless, nissans like to have heavy flywheels and harmonic balancers. for the most part i say get em. the flywheel wont hurt anything. if you have a ka and you rev over 7k you want a nice balancer but the stock balancer isnt even that good so scrap it anyhow.

when you say balancer are you talking about the rubber dampner ring in the stock crank pulley? i was told that was to absorb the impulse of the ac condenser engaging. i figure no ac no problem.

im just a little leary of lightening whats bolted to one end of the crank and not the other, mainly because im ignorant about the workings of internal engine components.

dampener, harmonic balancer, crank pulley...all kind of used interchangably on nissans. it is my understanding(though the second hand explanation of a nissan engineer) that the ka has balance issues. not front to back but up and down. its just due to things like piston speed and all throwing an otherwise managable shake out beyond the limits. the flywheel is a safe mod. the crank pulley is questionable. i would opt for pulleys on accessorys.

if theres any doubt id rather not even bother with the asp pulley. im going to buy a stock one with no chips in it and have a pro align and torque it properly (the guy who lent me the wrench for the flywheel). i agree with your sentiment about replacing stock acessory pulleys. only issue is i can only find underdrive versions, so how would i fit the belts? any recommendations.

go to napa or somewhere and match them up. thats the only way unless your pulleys come with belts.
