I need a torque wrench :D

I can't afford Snap-On. Would a Craftsman wrench do the trick and not be a crappy tool? My dad has a lot of Craftsman parts and they all seem to hold up pretty well.

Anyway, it's a 20-150 ft-lb wrench for $59.99 from Sears.

Good deal, or should I be looking elsewhere?

Discuss.

I've got a craftsman, I think it cost me a lil more. This was a few years ago though. A solid piece if I may say so, and very necessary for any serious DIYer.

i've got a craftsman tq wrench. no problems yet. there's better ones out there, but price owns me and the lifetime warranty of craftsman products won me over. i just take it in once a year for calibration.

I have 2 Craftsman torque wrenches, one is dial-up, the other is flex-bow. Both have worked just fine. I completely rebuilt my MG's engine with the dial-up and everything worked perfectly.

Craftman also makes a 5-80ft-lb wrench. Something to consider, since there aren't too many nuts/bolts between 80-150 ft-lbs, but there are quite a few between 5-20. I have that one, and then a cheap $60 one from Home Depot that goes to 250ft-lbs for when I need to go higher than 80.

I've never used Snap-On stuff, but IMO Craftsman rocks. My grandfather worked at Sears had a ton of Craftsman stuff. He had the same tools for as long as I can remember (I'm almost 29 years old). He died a few years back, and my father and I still use the tools.

I just drop it off at Sears to have it done. I got the 5-80 ft/lbs wrench. LIke said earlier, there's very few things that exceed it's limits. Lug nuts being the highest setting I've used.

Just as a side precaution, always make sure when reading torque specs to see if it's measured in Inch-pounds or foot-pounds. I've seen head bolts sheered in half in a ford probe motor because of this mistake. It was an ugly mess to fix. The difference between 33 ft/lbs and 33 in/lbs is 1200%
