Hey guys,

I’m wondering what torque wrench(s) I’ll need for any project in my Z32. I don’t currently own any and I’m doing my shopping now so I’d like to get everything I’d need. Even better if I can do an all in one. Thanks!

None needed for disassembly, but you'll want one to put it back together properly.

A torque wrench is a one-item purchase. Get a 1/2" drive torque wrench, and grab some 1/2" to 3/8" adapters so you can use all of your sockets.

Here's a good starter wrench: https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-2-I ... 88&sr=1-20

Hope that answers your question.

Watch which 1/2" model you buy. Some go lower than others and it isn't good to use a torque wrench at its limits. If building an engine get a 3/8" model also.

I was forced to get a in/oz torque wrench when I started working on Bimmers. Really flimsy bolts everywhere.

I used in/oz torque wrenches at Lockheed on the space program. Had never heard of one before that. It looked like a nut driver with a dial indicator on it

BMW uses a lot of low strength/torque bolts down to 2mm on a lot of crucial components so rather than guess, after beheading a few fasteners I broke down and bought one. Mine is a bit beefier though, just looks like a little version of the big guy.

Shocking BMW would use stuff like that

Its all calculated, if installed per the design the fasteners don't fail, its when bear hands get their hands on them that problems start haha.

Still odd that a car would have fasteners so small that they got torqued with in/oz. The things we used in/oz onwere small electronic pieces with very small fasteners, #4 or smaller
