I have searched the FSM and cannot find the torque specs for the flywheel bolts. Does anybody know it?

Thanks

1. Place flywheel on crank.2. Hand tighten flywheel bolts.3. Connect socket to impact wrench.4. Place end of socket/impact wrench assembly over flywheel bolts.5. Make impact wrench go "pppvvvvrrrrrgggghhghghg" several times until bolts are tight in a "criss-cross" pattern (like tightening lug nuts)6. Put transmission on and drive.

I did that once and ended up with some loose flywheel bolts...

Joo need a beeger impact wreench!

J/K. Properly torquing to the correct spec is always the best way to do it. I've never experienced having loose flywheel bolts as a result of my lackluster torquing method, but it certainly can happen.

Thanks for pointin' out that possibility. I don't ever want to be responsible for someone's flywheel floppin' off into the bellhousing.

Mine came loose last week. but it did not stay in the bellhouseing. In fact all six bolts broke and the flywheel came off and out of the car. It broke the input shaft off, bellhouseing in to 4 large pieces and broke the tailhouseing. Tore the right side engine mount and the trany mount both in two. Fu**ed the end of the crank, broke the upper corner off the block, and tried to saw the down pipe in two. When the engine torqued over it pulled on the upper intake hose and busted the water outlet off the intake. O and let not forget that the engine over reved and the exhaust valves hit the pistons and bent atlest one of them. All of this was the result of the flywheel not being balanced right and the bolts loosed up and then they broke off.

the moral of this story is use a machine shop that you trust, and not the one with the lowest price.

Yooowwwza!!!

Glad your legs are still on, man. Sorry that happened.

I think I'll go torque my flywheel bolts on this engine I'm building...

Always used an impact on mine. Hand-tightened and then zapped them. Always made sure the compressor was built up on air.

Torque wrench I was using only goes to 90lbs. So I had to tighten with a pull bar. I used a metal bar and bolt to hold the flywheel in place so that I could tighten it down. Dam cam bolts are a PITA too!

it is best to use a torque wrench because if you over tighten a bolt it can weaken it and on a flywheel if one breaks the other are not far behind.

My instructor thinks that 110 lb fts is to much for the 12 point bolt.
