Does anyone know the lower ball joint torque spec for the nut? I looked at the fmc and the Nissan service manual (even a Chilton service manual) none shows the torque spec for the nut. Searched the web also came up empty.

Hello,

52-64 ft lb according to the FSM for the REAR ball joint. It's weird that it isn't listed for the front. Is there any reason to think that using the rear spec is no good?

Thanks for the reply didn’t think to check the back torque specs

The only thing I can think of about using the back torque spec is that the front ball joint also turns side to side where as the back only goes up and down. Not sure if that makes a difference in the torque spec.

if it has a castle nut for a cotter pin. then just tighten down til you can get the cotter holes to show through the castle nut. if no cotter pin then i guess i would use the rear specs.

Research the bolt's size and type, then compare it with an SAE torque chart. For my 2012 Nissan Rogue S, I ended up torquing it down to 100 lbs-ft.
This is enough to keep the shaft from slipping up and down in the steering knuckle socket. The max torque for that size bolt is 194 with no lube, but since I did not have new hardware, I lowered it.
