I've been getting some shift shock when the torque convertor locks and unlocks... Happens with the shifter in 4 or 3. At one time Q45Tech mentioned that a small amount of Lubeguard Black may help, but too much will cause the T/C to slip and not lock at all. How much do you recommend to start out? The fluid still looks good from our double flush last fall, so I'll probably wait until spring for a new flush. It's been about 20K now.

I also wonder if it's somehow related to the 1993 TCU (64U20) since there was a TSB on a countermeasure TCU (64U75) for T/C shift shock issues. Sadly, I doubt I can locate the 60U75 TCU in a junk yard (at least easily) or I'd try it. Maybe I sould put the old TCU back in and see if it makes a difference...

Most of the small differences in year to year TCU programming were fixes for transmission longevity and smooth shifting and TC lock/unlock pressure/interval.

One must assume that after creating 6-7 software programs [90-93] that they finally gave up and redesigned the transmission for 94 to address things they couldn't do in software.

Lubeguard Black should be added in tiny increments because it contains a friction modifier. 5 oz of Red then 2,4,6 ounces of Black* with a weeks interval between adding each increment.........zero in on what feels good to you.............if you over dose pan drain 3 quarts of ATF out and refill with ATF to reduce the friction modifier concentration.

* add 10-11 ounces in total of the combination of the 2 Lubeguards or just all Red and skip the Black if you are not sensitive enough to feel the lock up changes. I flush the 3rd transmission every May [every 15k] now with conventional [Valvoline bulk ATF Dexron 111e spec] as it only has 44,000 miles on it. Still add the BG Conditioner after the flush, so who knows what these combinations do but the BG is mostly Zinc Diphos for the gears vs Lubes genetically modified sunflower oil [to emmulate Sperm oil].

We know both these additive products work but not how or if they interact.

I'll try it for sure... how do I know when I've added too much? I assume the T/C won't lock?

You also mentioned that you're using conventional ATF. Do you think that M1 is not worth the price, or is there another reason?

Acquired the newish remanned transmission from a wrecked car were it already had 10,000 miles of our Valvoline ATF, so I just decided to stay with that since it was doubtfull that my Q will last much beyond 350,000 miles [80,000 miles to go] [125,000 miles on the transmission].

My engine idle compression is starting to annoy me in Summer heat with AC on. No economical fix other than an engine swap......and the paint is getting rough [never been painted] and drove hard and hung up wet thru the dirt/gravel roads. Don't even wash it but once a month now.

My last [2nd transmission] didn't start getting Redline or Mobil ATF till it had over 70k [cooler installed at 50k] and lasted 200K+.............

Can I put up with the Q for another 80k [350k] or 5 years @16k
