im about to replace my auto trans tomorrow. does the TC need to be filled before it goes on the trans???

yes it is better to have it filled when you start it. it ight get a little messy when you go to slide it over the input shaft but wont be to bad.

great thx....another ? this one more speculative...lol

i installed a trans in the beast about a month ago (the original went, and replaced it, and not 3 weeks later that one went). the TC wasnt filled before we put it on, would that have helped the trans to die or more possible that it was just a bum trans?

bum trans, that may have asisted in pushing it over the edge though.

what went wrong with the trans that mad eyou decide to replace it? (symptoms)

the first time, no reverse, all the gears were fubar'd (like the linkage was off, but it wasnt). then all of a sudden they came back, but the trans was grinding something awful(planetary gears rashed into each other?)...when i dropped the original there was a ton of fresh metal in the pan and filter.

the new(er) one ran fine for about 3 weeks, and then just gave up out of the blue.....no gears what so ever...

on the first trans your assesment is probably about right.the second symptom is one the torque convertor would have. that or pump failure.
