Does anyone know if all torque converters between the Maxima and an I30 are compatible (obviously amongst the same years)?

I've got a 98 I30t which I believe has a bad torque converter, however I've found a few folks that say the car requires a special locking torque converter. Supposedly it's because of the side that mates to the transmission has a different setup.

Does anyone have any experience with this? If push comes to shove I've got a 97 Maxima Transmission and Torque converter I can put in the car (yes I'll have to swap differentials).

Thanks,

-Sean

Yes the torque converter should be the same among comparable years. Jest make sure you drain it thoroughly and refill it with new fluid prior to installation.

So any torque converter from those years are fine?

Also, how much fluid should I put in the converter?

Check the trans code on the tag under the hood. If they are the same you should be ok. I30t should have LSD. If the trans code ends with a V it is limited slip. Don't know if this helps. Couldn't you get a reman. convertor pretty cheap? What symptons does the car have?

TC should be the same regardless of LSD or open diff.I don't recall the exact capacity of the TC. Shouldn't matter, though. Just fill the TC, then once it's installed, subtract that quantity from the total and add the remaining amount to the trans directly.
