Hey guys,

I am new to the forum but I have been a long time Infiniti driver. I have a 98 QX4 with 242k miles on it. Unfortunately I blew the torque converter yesterday. Do you guys think it’s worth fixing? Any advice?

junkyard transmission $1500 installed

whether or not its worth it.... is up to you If it was a stock QX4, i'd consider selling it. But in my case, i have dumped so much money into my Q (all urethane suspension bushings, new timing belt, water pump, pro-comp wheels with brand new BFG tires, brembo brakes, old man emu lift, complete sound system, etc etc the list goes on) that it would be stupid to get rid of it over a transmission.

my wheels cost me more than a trsnmission ya know what i mean!!!

Yeah, i know exactly what you mean! I dumped a bunch of money into it too (not as much as you), but i have a new timing belt, new water pump, OME lift and brand new Revo Dueler tires....

I was anticipating a really bad winter on the east coast and wanted to be able to get around. If i get a new transmission my other concern would be the engine breaking down!!

Anyone know the average lifespan of the VG33?

since you brought it up, someone said that the problem i have is because of the tourge converter, what im experiencing is when im goin up a hill at like 2500-3000 rpms it will go up and down in rpms its like only 200 rpms difference (its like if i wear to let off the gas peddle and push on it again over and over). does any one know what it could be?

korbeanu, yeah that sounds like the torque converter locking and unlocking. drive up that hill with O/D off (the little button on the shifter) because then the torque converter will stay locked, see if that makes any difference you can even play with that button, turning od on and off, and you will then know if its the torque converter or not...

I have the same problem but mine is when im on the free way my pathfinder use to do 100 at 2kRpm now its does it at 2200+rpm and my O/D doesn't even work now.

Is hard to fix a O/D? and is My transmission's on its way out.
