I have a torn CV boot on right side of front axle. How do you go about shopping for a replacement of that boot only? There are no clicks or any type of noise when turning, so do I have to replace the entire axle or just that torn boot? That oily scene is because my engine oil pan is seeping & needs replacement; will be addressed during next oil change.

Pretty sure you can't buy just the boot so you have to buy a new axle.

Also, it looks like your oil cooler is leaking, I believe that is the oil cooler right above your axle. Are you sure its the oil pan thats doing the leaking?

Leaking oil cooler is very common issue.

If it is the oil cooler you just need to replace two o-rings, you can get them on ebay for around $15 shipped.

Search for "oil cooler leaking" in the pathfinder section of the forum for more info.

I'm not sure it's oil pan that's leaking, entire area is wet. It won't hurt to get o-rings for oil cooler. Thanks for the lead!

I found some CV boots on ebay, some listed as inner and others are outer, which one is mine? Also en ebay seller in Kansas is selling the whole axle with a 10-year warranty for $61, not bad at all. Thx.

I guess Dorman makes a universal fit replacement cv joint boot, looks like this is what you need

Um, your signature says you have a 2WD, therefore you have no CV boots, at the front, or at the back b/c it's a solid rear axle. I believe you are looking at the steering rack boot, which do fail, I have replaced mine, I believe with Dorman, specific to this vehicle. If you are leaking *any* PS fluid from there, then dirt has worn the rack seals, and the rack itself will need replacing.

Your pan may be leaking, but your oil cooler is all wet, and if you have not replaced both these seals, you might want to.

Thanks for clarifying what my torn boot is. Yes, mine is a 2WD. I ended up ordering Dorman's outer CV boot off ebay, the one referenced above by "04pathse." I'm wondering if that's gonna work. Looks like the entire rack is not cheap! I'll have any INDY check for all leaks next week.

For the oil pan, I'd like to get a new one but on ebay prices vary from $20 - $150. Any decent merchant that sells Nissan parts? O'reilly's wants $90 for it. I've also read that it doesn't have a gasket, but uses sealant, although some outlets sell gaskets for it.

I took truck to a local mechanic and he told me oil cooler was not leaking. He said what caused rubber boot to crack was the fluid, it's own fluid. I thought that was bizarre! Does rack & pinion have its own fluids?? He added that if he changed only the boot, it would break down pretty soon due to continued oil leak. He recommended changing the entire rack? Does this make sense.

NO . How long did the dripping fluid above is probly what did it TAKE , 10 years to deteriorate that boot ?
Put a new rack boot , make a small pin hole at bottom as a "leak detector" , this =$20 .
New rack= $$$ 595 + .

That is your power steering boot. I just replaced both of mine on my 2002 Pathfinder. Same OEM part number for the 2002 QX4 (48203-0W025). Costs about $30 online at infinitypartsdeal.com. You will have to remove the outer tie rod end from the steering knuckle and then the tie rod to take off the old one and install the new one. Doing this is likely to throw out your wheel alignment and is unavoidable no matter how careful you may be to mark your parts before removing them so they can be reassembled trying to avoid any change to your toe alignment. I tried put failed so it cost me another $50 for the alignment.
