Alright first my background. I've been hunting for a cheap 240 for my first rwd experience. If I get a S13 I want to make it a fun project car....you know drop in a SR20, gut the interior, throw on some nice tires and suspension and make it a fun weekend/ autox car. If I can find a S14 I'm looking to make it a nice streetable daily driver type car. Do the basic mods, drop a motor in eventually and just have it look good.

So yesterday I discovered a black 93 240sx 5spd for sale near my house. The guy selling it is asking $2600. It has 130,000 miles and a rebuilt transmission. But the car is a little ragged...a large key scratch runs down the drivers side and there is a sizeable dent in the passenger side rear quarter panel (its a $400 fix). It also has some alignment issues. But the transmission felt smooth and the motor ran well. It's not perfect but it would make for a great project.

But there's a catch....

The seller also had a blue 95 240sx 5spd w/ 95,000 miles. No sooner did I finish driving the S13 he offered this car to me for $6500. I didn't have the opportunity to test drive this car. He told me the car should pass inspection with no problems besides a faulty speedometer. (which he offered to fix) The paint also needs a LOT of help ie: a new paint job. But the cool thing is, he will sell the car with: S15 lights, fenders, cf hood and front bumper all of which are still in boxes.

So I went from no options two days ago, to having not one but two cars offered to me. Both of which I like and both of which I have different goals for. I'am so torn! What should I do? Please someone give me advice because I need it badly!!

Send me the info on your S13. I am half-heartedly looking for an S13 in the 2 1/2K and below range. If this doesnt apply to you then just ignore.

hm. I seem to have hijacked this thread, so to be fair:

if i were YOU, I would go with the S14. The strawberry face conversion is worth half that. and the car is worth atleast 4. I am a personal fan of the S13(as you may have guessed.) But an S15 faced S14 would make a heck of a look-good daily driver.

if it has a strawberry face conversion that comes with it I think its a no brainer s14 all the way. Thats coming from an avid s13 fan as well, but damn thats a good deal IMO.

Unfortunantly the guy selling the cars is only going to part with one one or the other. And yes this decision is driving me crazy, I can barely think.

depends on what you want, the s15 conversion will look great, but its a lot of work and isnt all that reasonably for a tuner car, however i would say, buy the s14, sell the headlights (which go for like 2k by themselves!!) and sell all that other stuff (keep the carbon hood if it fits the s14) and use that as your base car, if u want sho, go with the s14, if u dont really care, and u want money to mod the car immediatel, s13 all hte way , ultimately your decision

I really need to test drive his S14 before I can really even start to decide. So far everyone is for the S14 because of all those yummy parts coming with it. (who wouldnt?) I'm just sorta apprehensive because the seller seems kinda rough on his cars. I wonder if I could just buy the parts off him?

Well what do you want to have? A project car you can have fun with or a daily driver? You are giving us 2 very different scenarios

If you already have a daily driver then go with the S13. If not then go with the S14. A daily driver you can be comfortable with is always the first thing you should get IMO.

i'd say the s14, and the parts didn't sell me. I think you should look at it as a plus! it all comes down to your budget. that's what I would worry about. But personally I haven't been disappointed yet with my s14.

I think you gotta decide what is you really want. Do you want a newer daily driver or a project car? A "little ragged" (your words) and a rebuilt transmission are not signs of an easy life. Might be more of a project than you think. Food for thought

Assuming the s14 is in good shape beyond the paint job (fix the speedo and everything), then I would go for that one definately. I was looking for an s13 or s14 and eventually decided for the s14, its just more comfortable for a daily driver.

I would also get either car checked out by a mechanic you trust or dealer BEFORE buying either since you are worried about the car. Also get a compression test done on the engine to make sure all is well. It'll cost a few bills, but you'll know exactly what you're getting! :D
