Well it wasn't as bad as we had thought, compression was bad on piston 4 reading 65 while the rest was at 175, oil was blowing out of the breather tube, nothing was sounding right, but it sure as hell would still smoke the rustangs around here.

Today we pulled off the head and and oil was pooled in the #4 piston, so it wasn't good, all of the pistons felt pretty good, but #4 wiggled a little, so we dropped the pan and popped out #4, cracked ring lands was the culprit, no metal escaped from the piston, so everything was still good, so we pulled the other 3 pistons, just to check them out, rod bearings on all of them were worn, so we're replacing the rings and rod bearings on all 4 pistons, replacing #4 with one from another donor motor. Seeing we don't want to put too much money into this motor since our other one is getting all of the money. Well Nissan is sold out all around here on all of the parts needed. Advanced Auto parts can have the parts tommorrow to get the car going again tommorrow. They have a couple of different selections on the rings and bearings, just need some opinions on which seem to be the better ones, I have some links of the parts they offer for it.

Rings- http://www.partsamerica.com/Se...emium

Rod Bearings- http://www.partsamerica.com/Se...rings

Anyone ever use any of these? If not what do ya'll think we should try, we can defintiely keep everyone posted onhow they do.

Thanks for the help guys

Eric

order some rings from courtesy nissan, it took me about a week to get my 99 altima chrome rings (fit 240 ka) and they had to order them. they were like 60 bucks. the sealed power ones would be best but they are pricey. I say go with oem.for bearings I'm using all federal mogul, but a lot of people advise to stay with graded oem.

The ringlands are the weak part of the KA pistons anyway not the rings ;)

Correct me if I"m wrong, but don't people usually re-hone the cylinder walls everytime the rings are changed so they can seat properly?

yes the cylinder should be honed. You can do this yourself using a drill attachment... may not be the best way, but better than not doing it!

its very inexpensive to have your cylinders honed, I paid 42 dollars to have my block hot tanked, the cylinders honed for chrome rings, and the freeze plugs and soft plugs installed.

The motor had 32k miles on it, and we're just going to hone it using the drill attachment, walls look fine, no imperfections.
