Besides a T3 manifold and downpipe extension (what kind of downpipe?) what else is needed for a top mounted turbo? It seems as though in everything I've read, people complain about how much it costs to run with a topmount. But the power gains are incredible. Am I missing something? I'm sure it's worth it in the end..

The downpipe depends on the company that makes it. I had a custom topmount manifold made, so my 3.5" downpipe eliminates the cat and/or "highflow cat" area. Topmounts aren't cheap, thats for sure but they give you the room needed when running a large frame turbo. Clearance issues come into effect when running big turbos on bottom mount manifolds.

Thanks for the quick response, you say it's expensive "no doubt." But if it's only the manifold, downpipe, and turbo itself, what is so costly?

Yea I bought the injectors before I looked at the max HP they could hold... It was my fault but the car puts down 300 whp quiet easily and the injectors still have some range. This is all on a stock block (completely stock)

I appreciate your generosity! I, however, am currently looking into this new idea of mine, that is going top mount turbo. I want about 450whp. But I'm really concerned for the stock block (besides head gasket and cams). I'm assuming people go forged pistons for higher boost levels?

I would definitely take up on your offer, but I don't have the money currently. Heck, I don't even have the SR20 motor yet. I just like to plan early. Thanks again,

Patrick

Go 3071R Twin Scroll. Makes awesome power. Full Race has a thread about it on Fresh Alloy. They did the setup on Ross Petty's S13. Made 465whp 380tq @ 20psi with HKS 264 Step 1 Cams and Greddy Intake Manifold. Using larger cams will make for more power. I think 500+whp is easily attainable with more boost.

I looked into it, and I think I may just go with a GT2871r with a .82ar.

I want to be fast, but don't want to spend a ton of money (yet) providing power in the upper rpm range. Is there a noticeable power difference between going with the .63 and .82 GT2871r? Meaning is it worth the lag?

Theres 2 kinds of PFC. PFC L Jetro which uses the MAF or PFC D Jetro which converts to MAP.

Its about 25-50whp difference. Id personally go with the GT3071R .63 at least for a top mount setup. Im not talking Twin Scroll, just normal T3 .63 Turbine Housing. Youll have 20psi before 4200rpm and make 430whp at that. For the same price as GT2871R you mind as well go something a tad bigger with similar spool and more power.

Power FC still uses MAF

Also to the starter of the thread Im on stock block with no problems and my setup is topmount setup.

Also I think I am cutting a great deal or is it over priced? I mean upgrade injectors, internals, and tune and my setup could put you up to +600 hp.

I think of it this way if Im going to upgrade might as well go big so if you decide you want more power later the space is there too do so. The only place I faulted in this was the 555cc injectors.

Downpipe Extension? The kit has everything for exhaust to bolt up. You can see the 4 bolt Elbow that comes off the turbo which goes to the Downpipe connecting by V Band and then it goes to your CAT/Test Pipe from there. The only thing the kit doesnt have is IC and Intake pipe which needs to be custom since everybodys car is different. Id check if gaskets are included since there not really listed.
