I have rifles and pistols, not enough, but some of each. What I do not have, though, is a shotgun. I like the Remington 870 and the Mossberg 500 and I really love the Benelli autoloader. There was always one I liked a bunch, the Franchi SPAS-12.

Image

I found one at a gun show used of course; they have not been made for years, but the price was on the high end and I walked away. It bummed me out, but while I don't think I'm one of those karma-believers things do tend to work out for me. They did again. I'm heading home in a few days and there was one last gun show in my area so I went. I'm glad I did! Much like I was Countach lover at about the same age I was a SPAS-12 lover, so has an older Mad become a Gallardo lover and a lover of another shotgun. I wanted one, and I found it.

May I introduce my new Saiga 12!

Built by the Russian factory that makes AKs for the army, Izhmash, the Saigas are sprsterized AK-type weapons. One of the available variants is a 12 gauge shotgun.

Image

They ship with standard rifle stocks and small capacity magazines. If you put a pistol grip on them or slap a high capacity magazine in them, you just gave yourself a problem. They stop being "sporting" and you kick in something called 922R, a fruity law that requires no more than I believe it's ten major parts being imported. This one has already been properly complianced, though and is good to go! :dblthumb:

Image

They make 8, 10, and 12 round stick mags for it and I will likely pick up some 10 rounders, but for me there was only one mag to grab and they happened to have one at the show as well, The 20 round drum bishes!

That's a whole lot of rock-n-roll baby.

That drum setup is awesome! I was at a gun show this weekend and several mossberg shotguns caught my eye. Now grab an automatic sporting clay trap and see how quickly you can smoke 20 clays

Gun, drum and tax about $1000.
I'm looking forward to duping some shells into some targets on friday. I have samples of Federal, Remington and Hornady 00 Buck to run. :naughty:

I wonder how long until the feds decide this type of gun is scarier than the rest and try to clamp down on it. If you were watching the news on the Mt. Ranier shooter that killed a park ranger before running into the woods to freeze to death, good ending to that story, the news were plastering his pic up during the story.

See what he's holding?

I cringe when I see pics like that. They send a message that the subject usually intends, but sometimes does not, but always elicits the same revulsion.

That's a disturbed f*** right there. You can see it in his eyes. I enjoy my guns a great deal and if I ever had to use them to defend myself or others I would with mechanical precision, but I don't harbor the sort of sickness you see in people like this.

Unfortunately, I will be lumped in with such by anti-gun types simply because I own a firearm. Like any pastime or interest or demographic group, that 1% f*** it up.

I'm glad he froze to death, slowly, painfully, alone, in failure. I wish it could bring back that Park Ranger who put herself between him and his likely innocent victims. She knew what she was up against and she stepped up anyway. That took the sort of courage and character this scumbag didn't have and she is a hero.

How much is reconstructive surgery on a shoulder? Ouch! about 60 rounds of OO buck with a hard-ended fixed stock sort of sucks. :nutkick

My comrade did not like the Winchester Super X. It worked in the 5 round stick mag, but was short stroking and causing FTFs with the drum. The Remington Express cycled the weapon nicely and grouped pretty consistently about dinner plate size and 20 feet or so. The Federal LE did a bit better groups and also ran the gun fine. The Hornady grouped so damned tight at that distance, though, it just made a big 2" hole. That's my round right there!

This thing is very controllable and it would be easy to mag dump it and have a very tight zone of hate, but the trigger was not resetting. After about 60% of the shots I had to flip the trigger forward to get it to reset. I'll have to google that and see if there is a stronger trigger return spring available.

Other than that and a real need for a cushioned butt pad this Ruskie machine is balls to the wall awesome! :bigthumb:

The internet is awesome. Five minute Google search.

The hammer spring can shift sideways and keep the trigger from resetting. I strip my gun and whaddayaknow! That is exactly what is going on in there.

Bend it a bit and problem solved!

Thank you Saiga forum! :dblthumb:

I must say, coming from the AR world, this AK system is so frigging simple it's crazy! Every part is big and crude and tough and it is only as complicated as is required to work. You can tell a grubby tanker built the thing and it's a pickup truck compared to the Corvette in the safe next to it. I just so happen to be a pickup truck kind of guy and can appreciate the simplicity and ruggedness.

I am in trouble. After my initial experience with the Kalashnikov system in this Saiga I know I'm going to get that AK now. Combine that with the fact that I just picked up a Chi-Com captured Japanese Arisaka retrofitted for 7.62x39 I have need to stock the Russian ammo anyway.

I wish I'd bought a truckload of them when there were less than 300 bucks years ago.

was in a pawn shop that had a table with probably 50 of the bastards on it.

that said, I'm not going to bother going for one at nearly 700 dollars with no fun bits when I can get a Benelli for a few hundre more or a Mossberg 930 SPX for a few hundred less

yeah.

I just honestly don't think they're that much gun for what they sell for now.

It really kinda sickens me to see those prices.

Reminds me of just after the '08 election and prices blew the f*** up.
