Some dumb*** kid threw a rock at my V!, it hit right above the driver window, on the painted part. It looks like a small rock hit it, but did BIG rock damage. The paint completely chipped off. it looks like a 'pin' sized rock chip in the primer with a 1" in diameter chip off of the paint! Just a quick question, should the paint have chipped off as much as it did? could it be maybe bad paint? ie..warranty work? or will I have to take it to a shop and have it fixed to keep it from spreading. Ill post a pic as soon as the sun comes up.

I think some dumbarse kid's parents need to pay for your repairs.

It depends on how fast you (and the rock) were going--and how big it was.

I really don't understand what goes through the mind of some kids. I've had all sorts of things thrown at me in cars. I had one stupid kid shoot an arrow (metal tip and all--although it was a "bullet" tip for foam targets and not sharp) at the Maxima. Luckily it hit the windshield and glanced off. But...an ARROW. What on EARTH was going through the kid's mind? He's extremely lucky I wasn't driving, and the person driving the car was too much of a WUSS to stop and confront the kid. I nearly dove out of the passenger seat. I would have snapped his bow in half if I'd been able to get to him.

This is why I always keep a small sack of rocks. You never know when you'll have the need to retaliate or get into a rock fight. Just ask a Palestinian, it seems like they always have rocks to toss back at those tanks .

Anyway, I agree it really depend on rock size and speed. It is perfectly possible for the rock to chip off that much paint when you add in those two factors. I don't think it will be very easy to get it covered under warranty. The warranty only covers "normal operation". The only way I would say it could be covered is if the V had chip resistant paint on the car. It's more likely they will tell you it's an insurance issue and go file a claim. I'd go after the kid who threw the rock and make their parents pay. Parents should be teaching their kids not to throw things at other peoples property. If they aren't teaching then they need to pay. There's no reason you should have to pay anything because of some stupid action of a kid. Get the chip fixed as soon as you can, so things do not get worse. Then go after the parents for the repair costs. Make sure you get the cops involved to help you search for the kid if you don't know where you can find him.

Neighborhood kids suck.

Are TPMS sensors in the place of the valve stem caps, or are they actually hidden somewhere?

If it's #1, I'm sure the neighborhood kids will end up stealing my sensors by the end of my first year of ownership.

No worries, the TPMS sensors are the entire valve stem. The cap, is just a cap.

I don't know, I think Colorado sounds pretty lawless to me. The cops really need to get their crap together and get things back in order.

???????? Um, it was just a rock. yea it still sucks but is not like they threw a brick into the front windshield for no reason. most people think the only problem in this county is the Sheriff and we just elected a different one this election.
