I just got done installing the LSD out of a 95 j30, into my non-abs s14 240sx.

There were no fitment problems at all. The thing went right in. I didn't even remove the swaybar or exhaust. The stock driveshaft fit perfectly, (even though its longer), like it was meant to be that way. And the j30 diff comes with the 3x2 bolt-pattern output shafts, (just like the 240sx), so there was no need to buy new ones.

The only problem I had was, vibration at first, but then I realized that the driveshaft and LSD weren't lined up. The driveshaft has a yellow line on the bottom, and the LSD has a white dot on the bottom, and it's imperitive that they be lined up, or the whole thing will be out of balance. Once I corrected it, the vibration went away.

The results are well worth it, accelleration is a tad-bit less due to 3.917 final drive, (as apposed to the 4.083 stock). But it actually feels more like a sports coupe now instead of a high-winding truck, as it did with the old diff. Drifting is much smoother and predictable now. And I've noticed a 25% increase in entry/exit speed for turns.

The speedo is off, (4.07% fast), but purchasing a new speedometer pinion from courtesy nissan should fix that. Although, I'm not sure exactly which one to purchase.

It's definately a two man job....although you could do it by yourself, you really wouldn't want to...

how much power can the J30 diff handle? would it be able to survive with a built up SR turning it?

can it be swapped into an S13?

Nissan uses the same diff's for all their cars, they just slap on a different final drive. All the r200v differentials can withstand the same amount of torque/horsepower, (whatever that is). So, swapping the j30 diff into an s13, would call for the same requirements that the s14 diff would require...

The 240sx uses a r200v with a final drive of 4.083 , (which is a truck gear if you ask me)....The j30 diff uses a r200v diff with a final drive of 3.917....The 300zxTT uses a r200v diff with a final drive of 3.61...

But the 3.61 final drive would make the 240sx feel sluggish w/o enough torque to drive it.....It also requires new output shafts, because it utilizes a 5x1 bottle pattern instead of the 3x2 bolt pattern....

A longer final drive ratio allows you to get more horsepower to the ground, because it requires more bottom end torque to get you accellerating....

I paid 300$ total with shipping from a member on the forum. I just posted in the buy/sell/trade section that I had cash for anyone with a 95+ j30 diff, and got a response.

i know this is an old post. but im tired of looking for this information. In a '95 s14 non abs with an open diff. can you install an LSD into the stock carrier? Or do i really have to find a different carrier and axles and everything. All i hear about installing an LSD into my s14 is to get a 300zx or infinity rear axle. Any light on this subject will help me alot, ive been trying to get an LSD into my s14

It will fit perfectly. Make sure its a 95+ or you'll be needing the axles too.

You really couldn't find that information? Really?? Yes you can install say the j30 vlsd guts into an open dif pumpkin, but you will need the output shafts. By doing this you keep the stock final drive ratio, whereas if you swap out the whole j30 dif(which will fit, just the pre-95 vlsds require the axles also) you'll have a tad but taller ratio. I just installed a j30. I did it by myself in the rain and it took about 5 hours
