Yesterday there was a post on here from someone with pics of new grills for the Versa, both CF and fibreglass.

Why was that deleted?

Oh Noes!!!!

It's either here or its not. If it's not then there is a reason. If it comes back then it's because of a reason. Reasons don't necessarily have answers for members.

Make sense? No? Ok. Just realize that creating a thread about a deleted or "moved" thread is against NICO rules. NICO staff are Nazi's if you ask some.

I caught that too. Someone may have tried to sneak in an unauthorized advertisement?

Or perceived as an advertisement? Maybe?

Then again, what do I know......

Since it didn't tell us where we could get them, or what the pricing was, it certainly didn't seem like an advertisement to me. It was a heads up about new aftermarket parts, and why wouldn't we want to know about such things in a Versa forum which discusses aftermarket modifications?

In my opinion (as a forum administrator myself, and a long-time forum user) better moderation would be to simply lock the topic/thread and let it drop away into the archives, removing it serves no real purpose (unless it was offensive or spam, which I don't think it was).

audtatious: Yes I have heard more ridiculous things in my life, but not generally when discussing forums on the internet. Asking why a thread was removed shouldn't be censored, or against the rules in any way, unless there are some unusual extenuating circumstances.

I was the one posted it, but that is really stupid that they remove my post, i was just letting people that would be some new stuff coming out for the Versa, that everyone should be interest it, i didn't even show the price or anything..........and they sent a e-mail to me after remove my post, that is stupid.

Well, making a thread about a deleted topic has caused the initial unacceptable topic to be brought back to life. Could be one of the reasons it is not allowed. Just throwing it out there.

While the NICO Administration tries very hard to avoid censoring or removing posts, posts or threads can be removed for any number of reasons. The most common reasons are:

1) Linking to a forum that competes with NICO. While this may seem silly, NICO exists due to the enormous flow of traffic that enters the site. Without this, the resource would cease to exist.

2) Posting something inappropriate. In the interests of professionalism, we ask that anything posted on NICO be "PG-13" in nature. There are other sites where "anything goes" and, while we try to avoid censoring content, NICO is not one of them.

3) Flaming, bashing or trolling. A good rule of thumb here is, "if you don't have anything nice / constructive to say, don't say anything." NICO prides itself on being a safe place for all people (newbies and veterans) to learn and share a common interest.

4) Commercial posting. We all hate spam, and spamming our members is a good way to be removed from NICO. Further, if you are a business and you have a product that might be of interest to our members, feel free to contact us. We can't allow commercial posting for non-paying advertisers, but we're very flexible and can design a package that accomodates most business budgets.

5) Political and religious discussions. We've learned from experience that these sorts of threads lead to division and dissent in our family, and we'd prefer to remain cohesive and united in our enthusiasm for cars.

6) Starting a new topic in place of one that you *think* might have been removed by a Moderator for one of the aforementioned reasons is simply bad "netiquette" and will be dealt with appropriately.

Other than that, we're a pretty fun place to spend some time, so come in, soak up some automotive knowledge, have a fun off-topic chat, contribute if you wish, and enjoy being part of the NICO Family - we're glad you're here.
Hope that sheds some light on the basis and actions.

In the future please contact a Mod/Admin offline with inquiries about threads that are moved/removed.

Since this thread isn't locked, I'll assume further, rational posts are ok.

Is it possible to identify which of those rules were broken by the original post? Did the admins/mods think Rule 4 was broken?

Rule 6 doesn't apply to this thread, because this thread isn't "replacing" the previous thread...right?

Let me finish by stating that I am 100% behind having rules in a forum, and following/enforcing them, but outright removal of threads which don't appear to break any of the rules seems a bit too totalitarian. Also, discussing the rules shouldn't really be that big of an issue, unless people are being stupid about it...right?

OK.....NICO is a Nissan Forum and the Versa Forum is a sub-section. There is a huge cost to the owner of NICO to keep the site running (server support, bandwidth, etc). In order to "pay the bills", NICO has official advertisers who pay to be "sponsors" of the site. When someone is paying you a fee in order to sell or list parts, you make sure only sponsors are listing product.

So with the above being said, and the rules being the rules, why would it be wrong for a Moderator to move the thread? Simply locking it still leaves it as a reference point for contact, correct?

I understand this. And it's perfectly ok for NICO forums to earn advertising dollars to cover their costs.

Since there was no contact info, or pricing, I dunno, it didn't seem like spam to me. I guess I can understand how it was advertising, but I don't even know who it was advertising for! For all I knew it was just some dude who found those images, and not a manufacturer.

What would be the consequence of me posting the same pics, saying "Hey look what cool aftermarket body stuff I found for the Versa, it'll be out soon from manufacturer XYZ apparently!"...?

Edited to say that I'm not trying to be a d!ck about this or drag it out, but as a contributing member to the forum, I want to understand what is and isn't ok. I don't think this is much to ask?

That is a good question. Of course, there is a difference between the "manufacturer" of the product posting info vs. a member saying "look at what I got from x,y,z".

I do not believe anyone took the thread itself as his intent to start a sales campaign. The issue is if he is allowed to do so then others should as well. Usually it is the Moderators "call".

The thread, given how it was written, could be considered a soft sell given the "tone of voice".

I would think as a member of the Mod/Admin staff of another forum, I would think you (as everyone should) would contact the sub-forum Moderator or a site Admin "off board" to inquire.

Thanks

I locked/moved it. If you'd like me to explain why contact me via email.

Don't start another thread about this please. The rules are the rules. Break them for one guy and you have to break them for everybody or you'll have allot more pissed off people.
