im trying to put my tophat mounts in my 97 s14. on the instructions it says to drill out the slot on the crossmember for a m12 size bolt. my questions is, how do i know if im enlarging the slot in the right spot? i dont want to drill out some or the metal and have the motor off by a bit. anyone else run into this before with tophat mounts?

try calling them up. They will help you with your install.

all you have to do is enlarge the stock motor mount hole so you can fit an M12 bolt through it...or drill two in the same location.

i got my motor in, it was a huge pain in the *** to get the motor mounts in. after i got them all tight, i went back to the transmission mount which is even a bigger mess. i ended up using a big crow bar to move the transmission where it should be, and the mount doesnt line up. I have to take about half an inch off each of the predrilled holes for it to work.

my top hat mounts worked fine, how did you get the motor in the car? lower it down, or lift it up?

I guess they changed them, because I never had to enlarge any holes or anything.

Everything lined up pretty well.Except the Trans X-member was off by like about 1/2 inch if so much.

Yeah I also thought it was strange that you have to drill the crossmember out. So I didn't. I bolted one bolt into each mount. Then welded the mounts to my crossmember The trans mount involved some muscle and strategic bolt placement to line up (which seemed a little dicey to me), but I didn't have to do any drilling, hacking, ect.

I also had to modify my transmission mount from TopHat. Just did that today actually and got it bolted up.

i don't know you guys probably installed the mounts backwards or something because my mounts lined up perfectly, didn't have to hack jack **** everything bolted on fine, no issues here. no taping firewall, no drilling, no banging, no prie or crow bars. =] top hat ftw.

I sent pics to Top Hat and they said my engine mounts were installed correctly (not backwards), and that I would probably need to modify the trans mount for it to fit right-which I did.

I have the JGY tophet copycat mounts and they seemed to go in fine, after my idiot self figured out how to install them! I mean it was a pain getting the bolts thru when we installed the engine but nothing uncommon, took a bit of wrestling withe transmission x-member but eventually got it in place.

If you email them a question about their mounts you will get a very rude and unprofessional reply, or at least thats what happened to me. And, their mounts are trash.

is the drilling only for an s14 because in the tophat website on their instructions does say anything about drilling
