as of today i was finally able to start her up! happy to hear her run with no noises or leaks but a tad disappointed in the the slight rough idle. im leaning towards the iac being out of adjustment. i think im still missing that cold start such as high idle when cold. ill comfirm that tomorrow.. i didnt take it on the street due to a bad steering line. thank the squirles for that. things done were VC's, knock snsors, upgrade to 95 injectors
(cleaned and inspected),timing guides and adjusters, upgraded to 95 water pump and clutch fan a**., all hoses from big to small, even cleaned out the egr and iac valve. question! will a cold air intake give it a rough idle? this came with the car and it doesnt appear to be one of those cheap ones. i do have a stock air intake from a junk car just in case. man i cant wait to get it on the street!
here is a pick of the intake:Image

everything put back together:Image

that has to be the filthiest traction control fluid {brake fluid} I have ever seen on a Q- must change it if you want to prevent expensive problems down the road.

Ditch the under hood power robbing cone "filter" and replace with OEM CAI now!

I would clean the MAF too... part of the problem with oiled filters is that the oil sometimes blows off of the filter and coats the MAF, causing skewed readings.

And after cleaning the oil off the MAF, clean the throttle body, as it is the next component in line to suffer from the oil spray caused by the crappy filter

Clean off the Maf? Will do. Tbody already done including collector when they were removed. OEM cai? Is that the stock unit that goes on the car? I have one taken off a junk car. So the after market units are no good?

Yes the stock air box- if you got the whole assembly, you will see it draws in cooler air IN FRONT of the super hot under-hood air, unlike the aftermarket unit in your car, plus the factory air filter is more effective in blocking dirt from getting past filter and into the engine.

Took it off to restore the worn out foam which kept a better seal. Will go back once cleaned with 303 Aerospace Protectant and re-foamed.

so i reinstalled the oem air cleaner and a used power steering pressure hose i sourced from the pick and pull. no more leaks. however i got some adjustments that need to be done. im using the scantech nissan software to see whats going on. one thing that jumps out and confuses me is timing. scantech is showing 50* while idling at 650 at an operating temp of 167/170. did i forget a setting on the software? at idle, timing should be 15* right? anyway, next few days will be spent gathering operating specs for tps,timing,iac/aac,o2,base idle. also, i put new pads on and now the dash is showing pads worn. could the rust on the rotors throw off the sensor on the right wheel? other things that need done is exhaust (leak on drivers seat), ac(unit appears to work but no cold air and no condenser fan), sun roof(no movement at all). as soon as she is running right within all specs, i can install the Wes ecu and the first gear start tcu! cant wait!!

yeah. one guy commented on the tcs fluid looking a bit too dirty. ill try to get that done once on the road. btw, has anyone ever attempted a g35 front seat install? i need to swap for better condition driver seat but id like a set with stiffer more supporting feel. plus the g35 are closer to the floor.

I think I have 1.3 version. Is there an update to fix that? Heard of 1.5 but can't find it anywhere.

i got willm's pm, but replies are disabled...

anyway, i would suggest using a light to time. the scan____ programs all will tell you what the ECU is doing to the base timing, but they won't tell you the base timing, only a light can do that!

Last night with timing light, I was amassed at how badly the timing was off! I mean it was advanced further than the marks on the pully. How was the car even able to start let a lone run. Also, I don't seem to have fast idle. Later I will reset the timing, unplug sac and fast idle and set base idle.

On the one of the software programs I use, the timing shows 30 degrees higher than US actual. So when it reads *45 I'm actually setting a at *15 BTC.

set TPS first to 0.44v. then timing to 15, warm engine. if 'idle' is above 700, then you won't be able to set the timing, may have to play with aac (unplug it). may have to iterate a bit between aac and timing to get it spot on at 15 @625. then, you plug the aac back in, hookup the laptop and set idle aac to 15%, warm, park, no a/c.
yes, some consult like programs read ecu base timing as 15, and some read 45, but again, that has nothing to do with true engine time, only what the ecu is doing to the base timing (if it reads 15, then it is not tweaking the base timing--which could be anywhere from 5 to 30 or beyond--if it reads '20, then it is advancing the base timing 5 deg).

I made my first attempt at setting things on the car. End result>
Tps-44
Timing-15
Base idle(tac-600/ecutalk-fluctuate 580-615)
Aac idle(tac-650/ecutalk 640-655) at 20-24%
Keeping in mind I have an exhaust leak at connection above lh cat and thanks to previous owners ignorance, I believe my exhaust flow is being strangled by the cheap single in import muffler installed in place of the stock suitcase muffler. Would my exhaust problems affect idle and air control? I will make another attempt at getting the idle and aac % close to specs.
