I've been tryin to decide how I want to set up my turbo kit, and the thing I'm stuck on is whether to do a top or bottom mount turbo, and also internal vs external wastegate.

The turbo I'm looking at is the same that my brother has on his '92 HB, the GT2871r

If you have this setup, how reliable/what problems have you ran into, if any?

IF you are using a T2 flange then best to run a bottom mount. Top mounts are good if you are running a T3 and bigger turbo. there are also T3 bottom mount out there but i think you would have to delete ac and pwsteering. t2871r should be a good turbo w/ probably no lag but for the ka's T2 is consider small and restrictive for the flow of your engine and may cause air overlapse through your camshafts.

There are more info out there...best is to search.....i would personally get a gt3076r or something similiar since i dont like laggy turbo. honestly journal bearin turbos are good enough.

IT all depends on your future goals. for sure when i had my stock t25 from sr it was good on to certain rpm then it dies off making it feel like stock on freeway.

yea, I had looked at doin the gt30 originally, I just wasn't sure how much turbo lag it had. Like anyone, I would love to have alot of power, and when I first started lookin, I though about the gt35 or gt42, but I figured that they would have alot of turbo lag.

From what i remember gt3076r is not laggy at all. but if you ever go w/ gt35 and bigger then good luck, they pretty laggy. again it depends on your power goals and usage of the car. to some it isnt laggy but to you it might be. i want instant power when i press the pedal but others dont mind the lag and want to get their teeths pulled off when boost kicks in. lol

let us know the purpose of the ride and how much power youre looking to see..also, try to make a parts list. this would be the best way to inform you and what you're getting into.

so far, what I have layed out in my mind is:

Apexi SAFC IIGreddy Turbo TimerFMIC and piping (prob 30"x12")z32 MAFplan on reprogramming my ecu/replacing with AEMkoyo aluminum radiator

plus oil lines, rereuiting battery, and all the extra small stuff

I already have a 3" HKS turbo exhaust, 10.7mm plug wires, and have a set of 370cc injectors(not installed btw) which I will prob upgrade to 555cc depending on my setup.

I may have left out a couple things, but thats just off the top of my head

yea, somewhere between 300 and 350. I'd like a little higher, but the higher I go the more likely I'm gonna run into problems.

I also plan on building a motor with:8.8:1cr pistonsBC camshaftsBC valve springsEagle rods

Is there anything I'm leaving out, or any suggestions on better parts for what I have listed?

There are always more stuff to it, but not a bad start. do a compression test and if good then boost it until it breaks then get it built. for that power goal the engine should be able to handle it, i just wouldnt consider it reliable.

Kelford cams are better from what i heard but i have BC stg2 and works great. i preferre that you stick w/ bigger injectors (555cc or bigger)so that you dont max the dutycycle. honestly it's all in the tune and how you drive that saves gas because i have 740cc nismos and i still maintain the stock mpg. also felpro gasket set would be a good way to go. cometic HG are good but gave people a lot of leaking problems. of course you have to get the engine resurface and w/ arp studs you would have to torque it a little more than stock to hold but i wouldnt risk it. Go w/ felpro HG, works good up to 500whp proven by many ka-t on this forum.

walbro fuel pump is a must w/ fpr something like aeromotive to handle the higher fuel flow, stock had fail on ka-ters before, including myself so dotn get stuck on the side of the road. for ecu you can probably go w/ something liek JWT, Enthalpy, efi specialist, research these guys before buying. they have good and bad reviews. the afc piggyback would be good for a fine tune but never use it alone to tune a car.

There are more to it but i'm just covering the basic. also for your motor there are more to it like machine work and whoever is going to install it for you... you get the point.

Search and you will find your answer.
