this is my first vert of any kind. love my car, its a 92' super clean but stock 240sx. i mean, other than a crack in the dash, this car is perfect. anyway, i just learned that you are suppose to treat cloth tops with some kind of water repellant stuff. every 6 months or so. the guy at the upholstry shop told me this...he also said that he recommends marine stuff for boats. i dont know why though. but he's got years of expierience so i know he's good for it. probably because its cheaper to buy it that way. i dont know if any of you knew about that. water just kinda soaks into my top, when he said it should bead and run off. anyone already do this? let me know if anyone needs to know what to get. i dont know yet, but will this week.

I've owned two convertibles; an Infinit M30 and the 240sx vert and had both tops replaced with similar cloth tops.

Neither time was I instructed to treat the top with anything. It has all the waterproof characteristics built-in to the material....but I could be wrong. I'd love to hear from others on this.....

My top is origional and soaked in water so I "waterprofed it". There is a kit you can get called "Ragg topp" or somthing like that. About $20, ot mine from Summit Racing 2 blocks away from my house. comes with spray cleaner and the waterprofing (2 different bottles). It did ok, I may need another bottle, i'm not sure how waterproof it will ever be. In light rain it beads nicely, after heavy rain all bets off- its soaked. I also got the Plexus from Skygeek.com and used it on the window, it lookes a lot better and i can now see cars instead of blur behind me. Be sure to tape off surrounding ares is you spray waterproof it or it will leave spots. Not sure if this helps, good luck!
