Nissan has a bulletin out that says the top timing chain guide on KA24DE's needs to be removed because of a similar problem to the KA24E's outer guide. Is this also necessary on the SR? It also has a top timing chain guide.

This question seems stupid because the KA obviously is not the same as the SR, but it also doesn't seem stupid because they both have the top guides. Hmmm.

If i am not mistaken, and i often am. The guide you are talking about was a problem on the ka24e and the early de's. once nissan found that the part was faulty they stopped putting it in the motors. (i have heard that the part is listed as un-necessary, and would be removed if a nissan dealer had your valve cover off for any reason.)

On the other hand, the S13 SR was in production until 1998, maybe later? and they all have the top guide. To me, this shows the guide does not have a problem. tho, this is honestly speculation.
