Any opinions?

The intention of the TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline standards is to create a winning situation for gasoline retailers, auto manufacturers and drivers. Currently, many gasoline retailers provide fuels with lower-quality additive packages that can build up deposits on fuel injectors and on intake valves. Others can build up deposits in combustion chambers and may lead to intake valve sticking. These lower levels of additives can have negative impacts on engine performance and vehicle responsiveness.

This may seem like a stupid question but, is the gas in Canada refined the same as the United States? If I buy premium gas at my local Sunoco, is it the same as any gas station in the US?

It depends. In Canada, many refiners have additives that vary based on time of year. For example, during winter months the fuel has special additives to help with cold starts.

I always buy gas from Kroger, the grocery store because they offer fuel perks & discounts. Their supermarket chain consists of Kroger, Ralphs, Fred Meyer, Food 4 Less, Fry’s, King Soopers, Smith’s, Dillons, QFC and City Market.

I have no idea where they get their gas from, but an internet search provided this name: Supermarket Petroleum Group.

Isn’t the gas from grocery stores & Walmart just as good?

From my experience in Europe, but that should be the same here, usually not.

As Casperfun said, usually you don't have the same additives package and/or amount of additives. It could also be a little bit less refined, everything to keep the price down, lower than brand.

What I was doing in Europe where there were more supermarket fuel than here, was usually use the fuel from these supermarkets and about one every ten fills, use brand fuel to clean up a little bit the engine. No need to use it everytime in my opinion... but that is only my opinion .

I have a Speedway (Marathon), Mobil and BP station close to me. Do those also count as "brand fuel"?

I haven't heard of 80% of the brands listed above.

Mobil and BP are brand name fuel.I would believe Speedway is supermarket fuel.
