I just recently purchased an Altima Coupe 2.5 It's a great car with a lot of power even for the 4 cylinder. I purchased the car in Georgia and had to drive it back to Maryland and on some of the long interstates tested out its power. I've noticed it wont accelerate after 111mph, I'm guessing its the gorvernor? I dunno but I was a little upset it stopped at 111, not that I would take it to that often just it seems to have a lot of power to stop at 111. Anyone else notice this??

BUT ANYWAY Altima Coupe = awesome! I love it, its a huge step up from my 1996 Honda Civic DX with almost 200,000 miles on it :D

Has anyone considered getting the governor removed??? I asked my dealer why they put them in and he says it has to do with the tires???? They can blow at certain speed....but that doesnt make sense to me cuz u can get better rated tires?? to note on the reply above....I have also heard you shouldnt try and max out your speed until the car has been broken in...its hard on the engine....but thanks for testing it out for the rest of us to see what it can do, honestly I might have tried that myself

Might have something to do with RPM's.Do you know what the engine is turning at these speeds?FYI, the 2.5 is not a good high reving engine. Smaller bore vs. long stroke makes for high piston speeds.

from what i understand most of the torque in the 2.5 is between 2-3K so i have to agree, it might have something to do with the RPMs. Do we really need to go faster than 112mph anyways? heh

Your top speed is configured in the cars computer. Generally, it is set slightly below the max speed rating of the tire used. You can put on higher speed rated tires, but I think you'd have problems convincing your service tech to increase the top speed.

Your max RPMs are also set in the on-board computer and is determined by the manufacturer.

I'm sure there will be computers coming out soon that will allow you to access your on-board computer to change the settings, though I believe if caught, it would void your warranty. This car is brand new, but most other cars already have this available. They even make them for pickups.

There's no way I'd go over 80mph for sustained periods of time without upgraded tires, shocks/springs etc... Cars right off the lot aren't designed for sustained high speed driving. I can't wait to mod mine tho... probably won't happen until I graduate and get a job...

Then again, the altima isn't much of a racing car. Perhaps one could mod it (shocks, tires, suspension) and then take it to one of those open-to-the-public tracks.

The limiting speed and tires is correct. My SRT is tire rated at 168 and the speed is factory limited to 170 approx. and I know that there is more to go after that. But one has to bo nuts to go that fast except on a track.

ALL MANUFACTURERS SET THERE VEHICLE TOP SPEED BY TIRE RATING. YOU COULD FIND ANOTHER 2.5 COUPE WITH DIFFERENT OPTIONS AND TIRES AND IT MIGHT TOP AT ANOTHER SPEED. THIS HAS BEEN ON COMPUTER CONTROLLED VEHICLES FROM THE BEGINNING, CAMARO'S, MUSTANGS, ETC ALL HAVE THE SAME ISSUES.

MY 3.5 SE WILL TOP AT 145 JUST LIKE WHAT NISSAN SPECIFIES, IT'S JUST ACCORDING TO WHAT OPTIONS YOU WANT AND LOOK FOR.

That sux, so does this. I have an se-r and my car tops out at 144 in fifth and sixth. I'm running 4800 in sixth at 144, lol- if there was no govenor i'd be warping time at 180 before i redline. i have a few things done to my car differently from a 2.5 tho. cams, cold air, and i'm thinking of getting some headers from hipro. good luck with that sound berrier
