So yeah my hood gets pretty damn hot with the turbo underneath it, like it steams when it rains and it's cold. It's pretty badass to me personally, but I was also probably going to get a CF hood when I did all the body stuff here in the next 6 months or so...and I was wondering if it would melt, or warp, or anything. I probably only have 3" of clearence tops between the turbine housing and hood, as is the case for most of is I would imagine. I havn't had any paint cracking or any problems like that so far...but I also havn't raped it for an extended period of time..im sure it could get alot hotter than i've gotten it so far.

recap: does anyone run a CF hood with turbo like 3" away from it's OK?

Newb opinion...CF is used extensively in harsh racing environments. I think a good quality hood could handle the heat without a problem, especially if its vented/slotted. I would also suggest a heat shield for your turbo.

Mine held up fine under a VIS hood on my SR.

Now I've seen a T3 burn a hole in a stock metal hood, because it wasn't tunned right and the turbine housing was so small it got too hot.

I'd say you'll be allright.

i have a T04B underneth my carbon fiber hood, and i have a heat sheild over the whole turbine since i needed it to prevent my brake fluid from overheating.

once you get a heat sheild there you can even touch the hood and it won't be hot right where the turbo is sitting.

What blanket/heat shield would you all recommend? I have pretty low clearences as of right now with some things, but im sure I can figure it out. The only one I could find before was one a frriend was running, and it was close to $200 or something...hopefully there is a less expensive alternative out there.

The stuff that is already on the hood keeps mine pretty cool. I can touch the hood and its warm, but not hot. T04B under there too. As for the MC, aluminum foil does the trick.

i made my heat sheild from scratch. it costed me 3 dollars from homedepot. all i needed to do was drill holes, measure fold and bend the metal to cover the turbine, and down pipe so it won't boil my master cylinder. it definitly keeps the underhood temperature waaay down. hey for 3 bucks you can't lose!!

my friend's prelude has a cf hood and the clear coat is severely cracking and looks pretty bad. I imagine this is due to his hood not having any heat sheilding on the bottom of the hood and it most likely being a cheaper hood. I dont think there is much posibility in harming the actual cf but you may want to keep an eye on the clear coat. If you have proper sheilding and stick the better quality manufactuers then ou should be fine. BTW, his engine wasnt even turbo and it still created enough heat to mess up the hood

you could also get some heat resistant material and line that area underneath the hood-- I bet that would help a little also?
