Im thinking on having top hat performance bulld my motor for me. I am not going to get any of the BD equipment that is included, mani, turbo, WG, just going to have to refigure the price.

They basicly do everything that should be done for a KAT and only rate it to 400HP.

http://www.tophatperformance.com/cratemotors.html

Go there to read all thats done with the motor. seems like everything except rods, port and polishing....

I'v seen basicly exact setups and people getting well over 450-500whp. Are they jut saying 400 for reliability? Im possibly thinking on having crower rods installed as well... just can not make up my mind.

Anyone have any experience doing bussiness with these guys? ands there quality of work and customer service. i just want to make sure is a reliable company to do buissness with.

This is the 2nd time I've heard them mentioned here at NICO. Firstly, keep in mind that a Boost Designs manifold is included with that "crate motor," so that it something to think about considering the problems people have posted about with them.

Honestly if you are going to get an engine built up at a machine shop, I really think you should get it done locally at a machine shop that has a good reputation and excellent customer service. My machine shop guy was an invaluable resource countless times during the build of my engine. He did TOP quality work, and he was able to help me whenever I needed it. I undrestand you can do this over the phone with a mail order engine as well, but honestly having someone local that is as intimate with your engine as you are is seriously something that I would not pass up. ...Even if you save a few bucks (and it doesnt even look like you would with this particular place).

See my comments about Top Hat Performance over in this thread on NICO:Warning: shield your eyes before you look at my valve cover :-) zerothread?id=120854

Long story short for Top Hat: Honest, knowledgable, reasonablably priced products and services.

I live a little over two and a half hours from their shop and I go out of my way to take my 240 to Top Hat. And I will continue to do so and also recommend them to others.

Btw, I'd have to let Mike comment on this directly, but with the supply problems that BoostDesigns is going through, it wouldn't surprise me if Top Hat's crate motors start sporting a different manifold/turbo setup. Just my gut instinct...

Yeah, I have heard nothing but good things about Mike and TopHat over the past 4 years.

He needs to get on board and start supporting the forums so we can help him sell his built blocks... Can you imagine if he teamed up with IAP?

Bye-bye, SR guys.

haha Greg you know we would all be happy to see a partnership like that, but let's be honest. The SR guys are already well behind us.

talked to mike today and they are probably going to go with just the crate motor. no mani or turbo. thats what he THINKS is going to happen. dont quote me on it or anything. btw, mike is awsome and seems very knowledgeable and honest about his products. didnt try to over sell anything. quoted me for my needs.

Sr's would only exist in Japan....They would be importing our Ka's over there.

I realize this thread hasn't seen any posts over the past couple months, but I thought it would be the best place to pass along the following info:

My KA-T install has been complete now for about a month...I've got about 1000 miles on the motor so far. Top Hat has some pretty good pictures of my engine bay over on their website (if you don't remember, my motor is the one with the red valve cover):http://www.tophatperformance.com/katswaps.html

Many things on the To-Do list to continue improving the setup...I'll post back with more later.

Hello all. I'm Scott Tackett the lead technician at THP. Mike isn't on the forums much. Me ,Tim (S13Burger),and Stephen(Burnin240sx) visit the forums often.Tim and stephen are techs at THP also. We hope to assist anyone on the forums with anything we can.

Please remember that we will build your KAT to your needs. The website represents the base KAT. We offer pauter rods and many other items aswell. We are currently looking into programing options also.

Feel free to email me any questions about our products or customer [email protected]

About the manifolds ,we are currently looking at other options and possibly looking into production of a KAT manifold.

Thanks...Scott Tackett
