Ok wow, this is ridiclous... i bought the top hat mounts, and they REFUSE to work on my s14....

1) The slots on the transxmember are worthless, when the xmember is placed on my chassis the bolts are on the outsides of the slots so it wont even more which makes sloting them useless

2) The trans xmember is on the actual trans preventing it from moving withint the smaller inside slots

i talked to the owner and he thought it might of been a maching flaw, but the new one he sent me is IDENTICAL to the old one ......

if both of the slots were usable i might be able to finagle this to but but as it stands its a ****ing paper weight, i might chop one of them up to make it work but idk sigh this is why i ****ing hate rbs idk what todo, i am tempted to just get my money back and buy mckinney but man i am ****ing broke, i mean flat broke as in i only eat dinner cuz thats the only my mom makes and i cant afford 3 things from doller menu i swear i am tempted to just sell this whole project...

just calm down man. get your money back and stick with it. tophat's part quality has been **** for a while now. i have one of their downpipes and its garbage, didnt fit at all. as in it was 3-4 inches too short.

anyways, just keep your head up man and take your time. my friend has been working on his rb26 swap for 2 years now and it still isnt done haha so it could be much worse!

Hey bro, stick with it... Remember, you're building a custom car, it's a cutsom swap... who else on the block can say they did that themselves? And remember... this isn't your average SR swap in a 240, or even a B series in a honda. Stick it out...

If he went through the trouble of sending you a new trans x-member, I don't see why he won't work it out to get you your money back...

Honestly, TH is a joke. I have their mounts and my transmission mount is twisted as $hit from hard use. I would for sure spend the money on McKinney mounts since they are stronger, but I have a guy replicating their mounts in box tubing so they'll be even stronger. Maybe we can market them to the masses if they make it through a season of drag and street racing.

^ that's for sure. their bad choice in metal thickness. need at least 1/4" for strength in holding up 700lb

I hear so many problems with tophat mounts... mine fit perfectly aside from it being a b*tch to line up in the front... idk man, have you tried your stock transmission x member flipped around?

sometimes I've found thats its best to call for the fastest responses plus it gets them on the spot so less room for BS.

You should have asked him why he chose not to make the mounts out of 1/4" steel. The shift knob literally bounces around after I hit bumps in the road.

TOP HAT mounts suck.I have dealt with Rukas Racing,Mckinney, and Unstable-Hybrid mounts.Mckiinneys are beefy but there is to much adjustment and still sits the motor a lil sideways. The Rukas Racing ,well i wont talk about those(you get what you pay for). The Unstable-Hybid mounts are the best i've used(there out of business now tho). And Top Hat directly stole Unstable-Hybrids mounts and copied their design, except the make them out of shi#y materials

my only considerations for mounting is either the oem xmember for your motor or a syko kit.

i also have their mounts. fortunately i don't have that problem your having but was still a ***** to install. I almost ordered the dp from them but asked about fittament issues it being short. All it is is a modified sr20det dp thats why its short, wondering why they dont just extend it? i baught one off ebay and it was a almost PERFECT fit! hope it all works out for you. heres a shot of clearance to the ground and allmost lines up with the frame

Tophat blows. Try to sell them and buy some other mounts kits of a crossmember.

I use their motor mounts.. not very sturdy at all...

I bought their downpipe.. took 5 weeks to ship it..

Got their downpipe.. it was a few inches too short... had to spend another 50 bucks to get it fixed...

Another 10 to refab the transmission brace bracket..

I called them about how dissapointed i was.. barely got anyone to answer..

I sent them like 10 emails.. they replied to one offering a refund... I said that would be fine... guess what, i haven't heard from them in months.

Go figure. Customer Satisfaction > $

Call Syko up and they might even help you with sourcing a crossmember.

i considered tophat but gary at syko sold me. chose them over mckinney'stheir mounts are beefy as **** and fit like nissan made them from the factory.they act like a solid mount under a load and normal when just driving around as opposed to a bracket style mount "kit"

you can find r33 crossmembers through jhotimports in georgia. i paid 70 shipped for mine. best deal evarpulled a trans crossmember from an auto 240 and used the trans brackets in the kit. driveshaft, everything fits perfect, almost too good. its amazing how it all just goes together

trash those man and give gary a call. it'll be well worth the extra money ..don't give up!
