Just got my RB25DET running with Top Hat mounts in a S13. Everything is torqued down, but the engine vibrates/jossles ALOT. I'm really afraid I'm going to damage my exhaust and intercooler plumbing. Has anyone had this happen before? Did I get bum mounts? Anything help, thanks a ton in advance.

I just filled my stock transmission isolator up with Flexane94. Here are some pics of before I filled the mount with the polyurethane...

I don't have any after pics, but I can tell you that the mount is SOLID.

Is that the part which the top hat transmission xmember would mount up to?

Yep the transmission mount bolts to the bottom of the stock RB25 rubber isolator shown above. That thing allows for so much movement it's scary. I could flex it with my fingers, so you can imagine what happens when you're putting down big torque on it.

flexane looks like fun. if you need something local tho, you can go to the advance auto and pick up a product called window weld. polyurethane in a tube.

works great.

Yeah, I used a polyurethane transmission mount. Made it nice and tight . . . giggity, giggitty.

The Tophat isolater's suck!!! I would know i made a post a while ago about them. I never even drove the car. They broke from putting the motor in and out of the car. I'm sure if i would have had them in the car i would be having the same problem. the mount kit (the metal) it's self is great and hasn't given me any problems. Tophat isolaters FTMFL!!!

heres the link of my old therad. the pic's aren't there because i moved my photobucket files around.

here are the pics from it.

My solution to the problem was i had a friend of mine that makes mounts for ka's and sr's make me some to work on my tophat kit. they work just fine and i have never had a problem.

I haven't had a lot of problems with my mounts yet, but I can see that the quality of the isolator itself suffers. Tophat blows..

My personal opinion is that TopHat should come out with a new Version II set of mounts specific to the S13 and S14 with quality polyurethane isolators and mounts made of thicker plate. It would be a good time to save some face and show some good faith to the RB community in the States.

Upgradeable isolators would be nice.

The main reasson the Top hat isolaters fail is because the bolt dose not go through the mount. They made the bolt big on one end and smaller on the other. that same isolater with a bolt that goes though would have worked fine.

mckinney got the idea and now they have very nicely made isolaters...

You should goto advance and look at some Volvo 240 mounts.Im pretty certain they are very close to that, and the aftermarket makes polyurethane mounts for the volvo exactly like that.Thats what my friend is running on his 2Jz project
