Tonight was the TG USA season premier, which consisted of Adam, Rutledge, and Tanner trying to find a suitable and economical replacement for a truck. They gave them $2,000 to spend and of course they had to complete a series of challenges in the vehicles they chose. Adam chose a Ford Maverick, Rutledge chose a Miata, and Tanner chose an E30 BMW. The show also has a new intro, not using the Top Gear UK theme anymore and the format for tonight's show was slightly different, with the hosts and audience outside of the studio. They were doing a brief recap at nearly every commercial break, that covered what happened before the break, which I'm not sure if I care for or not. From the previews for next weeks show, it looks as if they'll be back to the standard TG format, with road tests, challenges, and a star in a reasonably priced car.

Overall the show was quite entertaining, appearing to have a few improvements over last season, but nothing special IMHO. The hosts seem to have a little more chemistry this season and everything seemed to be put together well. They've been hyping the show up quite a bit, hinting at a lot of improvements, so I'm hoping we will see it continue to improve throughout this season. I still have high hopes for the show, but TG UK is still better by far.

Anybody else watch the show tonight?

First!

Bad show is bad.

No matter how open minded I try and get for it, Top Gear UK will always ring better to me.

I'm right there with you, I'm trying to keep an open mind with it, but I had to try pretty hard to write an open minded post about it. If the premier is a hint of what we will be seeing this season, then they need to go back to the drawing board. I'm not going to form a good opinion on it until next week though, since they're supposed to be back in their normal format. The show tonight had it's entertaining moments, but I didn't love it, and after reflecting on it, I feel more disappointed than anything. Hopefully they'll get it right, but tonight didn't make it look very promising.

It will never be TG UK, nobody can fill those shoes, and I don't expect them to.

Season 2 started pretty good. I enjoyed the first episode of season 2 and had a few good chuckles. It's a whole hell of a lot better than Car Show. That show sucks.

Agreed, I finally got around to watching it and it was full of fail. I'm perfectly fine with watching TG USA while waiting on a new season of TG UK

I didn't even know it was back on TV. I thought it was cancelled.
The Car Show is a better show, thought it is no Top Gear UK and show could ever be.

Just because one thing is better doesn't mean they both can't be enjoyed. I agree, TGUK is hand down better than any other TG (AUS or US or China or whatever), but I still get some enjoyment from the US counterpart.

yup. Turns out you can watch both...
Show was decent. Still a lot of room for improvement but worth watching when you got some extra time.
They did a bad job filming the freeway scene while shooting though... You can see police escort in almost every shot.

Also, monster trucks ftw.

watched it last night, not bad. personally i think a s13 hatch with the hatch and rear seats removed would have been a better truck alternative than the cars they chose, but i might be a little biased! :chuckle:
