Like many of you guys, I am afflicted with this love of old Q45's. I have owned about 6 over the years, and have 3 right now - but let's make that 4. I am in the process of buying a Q45a from the Infiniti dealership in Tucson, Arizona - ebay item number 200207856830. Of course, this makes no sense whatsoever - especially with an "a" model - so here's the best I can come up with on rationalizing this purchase:

Reason Number 1

I can afford it. I'm no rich guy like my best friend Bill mind you, or I'd buy a new V12 BMW just like his. He also has a 4-wheel drive Porsch turbo that goes 0-60 in 4 seconds ($125,000). But I can afford to buy this car, restore it, and maintain it.

Reason Number 2

Keith Bowers is alive and well. So is 3Q Jay and Mint Q45a. I also live 3 hours from T3 in Atlanta. Further, see number 1 above.

Reason Number 3

I live in the middle of the mountains in western North Carolina. There is nowhere I can go without a whole bunch of tight corners, twisting climbs and descents and sweeping curves - even on the highways here. My drive to work at the university where I teach is 20 miles of two-lane, mountainous, curvy road with no traffic. Need I say more? With this car in good shape, and new tires, I wonder if I can shave 60 seconds off my course record from my standard Q?

Reason Number 4

This seems to be a good specimen. 69,000 miles, Arizona car. 100% dealer service where it was bought new, even oil changes. Older, retired previous owner. $3,000 in service and updates in the last year. Salesman provided copious details at my request, and seemed honest. Buying these old guys is always a risky proposition, but this is about as good as it gets.

Reason Number 5

I'm not getting any younger. This may be the last, best car I may own for awhile. We've adopted 4 children (now 9, 8, 4 and 3 months) and these kids cost way more than old Q45's, even if you keep them up per Q45 tech, so no new BMW M3 for me.

Reason Number 6

My wife won't let me have a mistress. A spirited mistress is exciting, partially in enjoying something you're not supposed to have, so in a similar this car may be the next best thing. And cost less.

Reason Number 7

I finally have a way to give back to the Forum. For years I've soaked up all this good advice like a sponge, with no return. So now you guys can vicariously experience some of my pleasure with this car, while also witnessing the pain ($), at no cost to you. Read "entertainment value."

Reason Number 8

I don't drink (much), or gamble or golf and spend lots of time working and child rearing so please give me at least one small daily pleasure - and cranking up a trusty old Q45 that I know bumper-to-bumper and pushing through some nice curves is it for me. Might even cost less than golf.

Reason Number 9

This will give you guys something to rant about. "Been kind of calm in the Forum lately.

Reason Number 10

And this will cause a fuss - if someone else wants this car more than me, please talk me out of it! I won't title it or have it delivered for several weeks, and with dealer fees it's sitting in Tucson at $5,100. But it was hard for me to see this car go to a casual buyer who didn't appreciate what it can be. So please - save me from myself and buy this car!

Jim

Poor b@stard. You've got the same illness as me (own 2, had 6) and I can't seem to find the cure either. When you find the right medication let me know. I could use some of it.

As you probably know, just about all the problems you could inherit from a 94Q will be easily to diagnose and repair but the active may take a little more work to bring the suspension up to par. It's hard to tell from pictures how the suspension is working until you get in and drive. If you've got the money....

Sounds like a fun commute. Have fun with your new toy.

Your reasoning is impeccable, sir! Complete sentences and cogent reasoning can be quite compelling. Hopefully others will learn from your discourse.

Buzzman: This sounds very good:

You may want to check if the fluid for the suspension has been exchanged, at least once - this seems to be the primary reason why some of the components in the system fail prematurely.

Jim-you are buying it? listing says no longer offered--assuming that is you.

this looks like a very clean specimen. cant tell, but is it the white interior?very late '94 (april 94 build). looks like the steering wheel is still 'raw' with some texture on it. mmmmmm.

no pics of mechanicals unfortunately. on the down side, 69k in 14 years is less than 5000 per. might have only seen yearly oil changes. hopefully the plethora of invoices will disprove that.

i hope you ship it rather than drive x-c on likely a flat active. or you can stop by and visit in socal before the long trip back

dang, you'll not only have me beat on Q's, but even a longer journey home than me(black came from new mexico--nice 800 mile trip home).

trivia: we now know that there were at least 17749 USDM 94 model year G50's built

I heard that. I might not have bought it for $55k when it was new, but I still treat it like a $55k car and enjoy every minute of it. Besides, I can't afford a new $55k car.

Bless your heart. I've got two kids and you're right they are WAY expensive! I hear ya bro.

Here here! I'm the same myself. Working on Infiniti's with a few of my friends is becoming one of my social circles. Think about coming over the Nashville this summer for the NicoFest.

Why not buy a 2004/05/06 Phaeton along with the Q. Check out ebay again. Then you will have lots of reasons to start drinking and making excuses not to be able to afford college for your four children.

And the '95 Q will look like the dream car it is, especially when the Phaeton's air suspension goes out.Check out the Phaeton VWortex forums site.Lots of illnesses there.
