I went down to the machine shop to spy on my engine and what do I find, it's ready to be assembled completely. The pistons are in, but no pumps. Here's the problem, valve to piston clearance! My valves appear to be sticking pretty far out the bottom of the head. More money to be spent. I seriously don't think my nismo headgasket is going to help me in this situation. Take a look for yourselves:

The machinist had to notch the head at the point where the cam lobes rotated because the lobes would not clear the sides:

Intake cam is 276* with 0.438" lift and the exhaust cam is 268* with 0.430" lift. These were welded and reground by Elgin Cams. We'll figure out a solution as it's not the end of the world. Next engine is a CA20DET (If all goes well with this one).

who made that intake manifold next to the block??

hmmm .4" of lift is about 11.5+mm lift, i am sure you'll need the full valvetrain to really appreciate these cams, i.e. springs, retianers & solid lifters.

Seems like it! I'm going to take both assemblies to another machine shop so they can do whatever it takes for me to close this engine up.

I must admit that a 11mm lift is just insane.. is that 11mm of valve lift or cam lift? You can always run an undersized solid lifter to bring it down a bit. Even the SR that has a 12.5 cam lift only has a 8.17 valve lift. According to Tomei, the highest CA valve lift they offer is 9.87 when the cam lift is 10.25 at the highest. Reason being is that they run a .38mm undersized solid lifter. Please let me know how those cams do on the dyno, I am interested.

Got some new gear in today! Jun 272* with a 10.5mm lift, copper headgasket for CA18DET, JUN valve springs, big aluminum rods, cam gears, and a few other things. The JUN camshaft lobe still appears to be significantly smaller than that of the elgin racing camshafts, but still huge. I'll post some pics of the stuff so you guys can see. The first one here will be of the rods:

I have not a clue. But they are more beautiful in person than they are in a picture. I will be pulling my shot-peened rods for these puppies.

May be a stupid question, but what's the point of having enourmous cams like that if you're just going to use a smaller lifter and decrease valve lift? Does it help with the revs at all?
