Tools questions

I am looking to get my self some garage tools this year hopfully until I have most of the tools one needs to build a car start to finish.

First I was going to start by getting an impact gun and an angle grinder.

I have a approx 90-135psi compressor, Are air tools any better or worse than electric? I like that I can just quick swap tools on the end of an air tube rather than plugging in the tool and have an extension cord around.

Also I was going to stick to craftsman, unless someone has tips on that too.

craftsman air tools are alright if you are just going to be using them for your personal use and not 40 hours a week in a shop.

i'd recommend at least 150 psi though, but make sure you are pushing enough CFMs either way to operate the tool.

you probably won't need to use air tools much unless it's lugnuts or bolts that are just really stuck.

the other hand tools (sockets, ratchets, etc) will do most of the work. Get ratcheting wrenches (reversible) if possible, and make sure you have double of just about every wrench you will use on your car.

Most of the tools offered in AIR configerations you won't want to have, such as: angle grinder, orbital sander, etc.

Your compressor will probably be on non-stop and you'll need to give it breaks to catch up to those tools on a typical at the home comrpessor.

Impact gun, air wretches are fine.

Get a huge mechanic style tool set from Sears since you like craftsmen and build off of it.

Reversable wrecheting wrenches are a must.

A habit i get into is buying the specialty tools as i need them, and buying them quality.

The others buy in sets, to save money. Having a cheap set of backups of some tools isn't a bad idea. I do so with 1/2" drive sockets since they usually go under much abuse to get huge bolts and break things loose or used on a press for a bearing or such.

Tools for Christmas is the best. haha

if you are looking for a new profession or leaving high school, look into a trade school and get into auto or diesel or equivalent, when i was in school for diesel i was offered tools at 50% off, mac, snap-on, everything was 50% off, imo thats gotta be the best way to go for tools, and you learn alot in school too!

Okay so I think I will start with

Electric angle grinderAir Impact gun for around 80A mechanics socket tool set or whatever 100+pc is on sale.

Also I was thinking of getting a paint sprayer to paint my car in march or so.

Should I be looking at gravity feed sprayers or siphon feed?

I think I heard grav for primers and siphon feed for enamels, but I don't know enough about any of it to be sure.

all i have to say is when buying the spray guns go quality it'll save you the money in paint and time from fixing a crappy paint job

If you want to get into paint, Go pick up some SATA HVLP's.
