Took my family yesterday to the Museum of Modern Art in NYC. My sons GF is an art fan and had never been there before. So my wife and I took our son and his GF there.

Quite an experience. One must go thru the contemporary section (bottom floors) with a sense of humor, because I was appalled and amused at what some people consider art.
My favorite was in the photography section where there were a series of photo's of landmarks like the eiffel tower, with an outstretched hand in the middle of the pic flipping the middle finger (or NJ international gesture of friendship) toward each landmark. Some very odd things on display. There was some actual magnificent artwork on the upper floors, with famous works by Monet, Seurat. But after viewing Monet, it was impossible for me to consider Warhol tossing a Tomato crate on the floor as art (which he did).

I got slapped by two family members while looking at that famous Jackson Pollack splatter mural. I had mentioned that we might have a Pollack in our garage, when they turned their heads in disbelief, I said it was my old dropcloth.

Overall a fun day. Im not a artsy guy, but it was fun walking thru that museum.

It's been so long since I've been to MOMA. I think I went once in my undergraduate days, but I've forgotten just about everything I've seen.

That is a very nice museum. I like the one in San Francisco too!

MoMa and the natural history museum in NYC are on my short list. When the weather is decent again I'm going to make a weekend out of it.

If you're looking for a good museum at a good price, I'd recommend the National Museum of the American Indian, in Battery Park. It's part of the Smithsonian, so it's free admission, and it was a great two hours. They've got a good blend of history and modern culture.
