With Spring right around the corner I couldn't wait any longer. I took the cover off, charged the battery for an hour, checked the fluids then cranked her over for the first time since last October. She cranked slow for a moment then fired right up, puttering for a second then achieving a perfect idle, simply an amazing truck! I took her for a good 20 mile run through the mountains of central NY to blow the cobwebs out. A flawless shake down I might add. She's got new shoes for 2011 and I will be tearing down the front end in May to install all the suspension parts I bought over the winter. For now I have to wait a little bit longer to start driving her more, waiting for the rain to wash the rest of the road salt away, so she's back in the garage with the cover back on for another couple weeks.

Here she is with her new shoes.(More low is on order)

Yes....I did. I store this one every year, it's never seen winter coming from FL.

Nice looking truck. I see from your avatar, that perhaps the suspension mods you mentioned might include something that will lower it.
Have you done anything to the engine? Pictures????

It's NY. If you want anything nice, you just can't drive it in the winter. Even if you are diligent about getting the salt off it finds it's way into every little seam and crevice in the body work and rots it out. Add that to the very high chance of some idiot plowing into you, and it's just not a good idea to drive anything you want to keep nice.

As for the truck, :bigthumb:

Some areas around here use calcium chloride along with rock salt in a slurry they spread on the road, it's amazing how much damage that stuff can do in one year, especially to a Hardbody which isn't know for its resistance to salt. My 96 is completely rotten and is no longer street legal because of how bad the salt got it. Seeing a Hardbody is getting kind of rare up here these days (most have rotten frames due to road salt), seeing one in the condition mine is in is unheard of unless if came from FL like mine did. I plan on keeping it a long time as I am not one who trades cars like baseball cards.

As for mods: It seems I have been working on fixing the suspension and steering forever now, it handles great but it does need to be lowered. I am lowering it 2" in the rear and giving it a sporty raked look with all Moog, Energy Suspension and Sway A Way parts in the front which I have sitting in my living room as I type this. The rear already has a Hellwig RSB but I am adding ES bushings and steel blocks back there.

Engine mods: None, just really good maintenance. I plan to replace the exhaust system next Spring along with a good tuning. Then I'll have it for the fun of it.

Thanks to everyone who has commented, it's inspiring to me and I am glad you guys enjoy it.

That is a gorgeous truck. :) Congrats on keeping it clean. I wouldn't mind picking up one of these for the kids if I could find one at a reasonable price. Everyone out here knows what they have and the prices are high.
