Took tail lights out of s13 for paint...2 metal brackets?

Well I tried to explain best i could in the title with the limited space - i recently repainted my car, meaning i took out both rear tail lights. When I went to put them back, I was left with 2 metal brackets (pretty big) and forgot what they're for/ where they go. Right now I have the tail lights in there with no brackets and they seem pretty secure. Anyone have pics/explanations? Any help greatly appreciated.

There are 2 bigish brackets that go near the lights that the boot trim clips onto I think.
