i havent posted anything about me in awhile. its been a rough ride for my versa. a few months ago a guy next door to the house i was at backed out of his driveway and smashed the front passenger side of my car. it turns out that wasnt his house. i sat in my friends driveway and watched him do it. walked up to him and he said he was really sorry and told me he didnt have insurance. my friend told me that he was a good guy and would pay me back no matter what so i called my mom and talked it over with her. we traded info and i told him i would go get it estimated and call him in the next few days.

the next day i went and got it estimated and the guy told me about 1,600 to fix it. i called him and told him how much the estimate was and the dude freaked out and told me it was going to be vary hard to come up with that money. he told me to call him in three days.

well my mom didnt take that to well and she called his parents and it turns out that he did have insurance that he had just gotten it that week. his parents were vary professional about it and i took it to get fixed within the week.

now everything is all good and hoping to start moding it as soon as i get another job.

washed my car today and it was a nice day so i took my car to the undeveloped part of my neighborhood and took a few pictures. i am no photographer haha.

(the car still has little wet spots here and there that shine in the pictures)

everything is stock besides the tint.

i kinda have a similar story to yours. The first week i got it, i got rear ended =[

what happened was i went to drive my lil brother to his indoor soccer game and after the game i told him i would pick him up from the main entrance. So i got to the entrance and parked and then realized this car (a rodeo) started backing up and im thinking ok the guy should see me but then he gets closer nd closer and then boom. Then i start thinkin to myself..ok thats was dumb i should ve moved or something. But heres where the story gets good, the guy doesnt know english, has no license except for his license back in his country and the car isnt even his! So i call the owner and he says get an estiamte and ill pay you and he told me not to tell his insurance . That night i notified the insurance company cause i told my dad about it and thats what he told me to do ofcourse. So i get an estimate about 850-900$ and i call the guy up and tell him and then he says that he cant pay it cause his mom got cancer and shes very sick and hes not guna be able to pay, so he got his insurance to pay for everything and now my baby looks good

sorry for the long story lol...

Ooh, shiny.

On a side note, you two guys' story bring up a very important topic... accidents, insurance, and those people who say they will pay on their own.

If you get in an accident and the other party is at fault, NEVER accept that they will "pay on their own", and NEVER accept any money from them whatsoever. Always report the accident through proper channels (police, insurance, etc.)

The reason for this is that in some states, a verbal contract is valid, and if they say that they will pay out of pocket, they have no obligation to use their insurance company. Also, at that point, their insurance company has no obligation to pay you after the fact if their client bugs out on the bill. If you accept money, that is considered a cash settlement... someone could pay you $100 to "fix" your car, and you later find out the repair will cost $1000, and you can't do anything because you accepted the cash... ALL states have THIS little clause.

Insurance is there for a reason. The insurance companies act to mediate what is (almost always) a fair settlement between the two parties for reparations, and the payment and quality are guaranteed by the insurance contracts.

People will offer to take care of the bill themselves under only a few conditions...

1) They have enough violations ("points" in some areas) that reporting the accident will suspend their license... or, alternately, they are driving ON a suspended license and an accident means jail time. Don't feel sorry for them - they were the creators of their own problems, they need to face the consequences, not pawn them off on others.

2) They have no insurance. If they have no insurance, chances are they have no money either. Your ONLY chance of getting your car fixed would be to report the accident and report it to your own insurance under an uninsured motorist policy.

3) They are afraid their rates are going to go up. These people don't understand that their rates probably WON'T go up as much as it will cost to fix the damage they caused.

Plus, in some states like California, YOU can lose YOUR license if you don't report it. No matter who is at fault, California law requires a California State Form SR-1 to be filled out by each driver (with a few exceptions listed in the directions on the form) for any accident involving injury or property damage in excess of $750.

Further, take their insurance card and license in hand. Unfortuntely, my wife didn't.

A number of years ago she was run into. A bit shaken up. But knew enough to say "no way" to the guys who said "Let's not put it through insurance/I'll take care of it". She wanted his DL# and insurance info . . . he wrote it out for her and drove away.

Unfortunately the DL# was wrong, the insurance info was bogus, and even though she had the plate number the guy said "nope, wasn't me". We were on the hook.

Care, folks . . . care.

Huh... and did the police show up?

Like srellim said, there are damage limits to accidents before you have to call the police and have them fill out the paperwork. In WA, it's $500. Basically, if you can see damage, you gotta call 'em.

If someone hits you and doesn't stick around for the police, then they've just stepped over to hit-and-run, which is far worse for them.

It's always good to get the insurance, contact, and D/L info yourself, but make sure the police are also involved... so if something goes wrong, you're covered anyway.

(and for those of you who don't have Uninsured Motorist protection... look into it, it's cheap, and covers things like hit-and-runs and uninsured motorists)

Good advice EV (as usual). Here in BC at fault drivers are given the opportunity to pay the insurance company the cost of the repairs rather than have it go against their insurance and drive up the rates. So even if the at fault driver wants to avoid going through insurance it is wise to submit the claim anyway and let them deal with paying the insurance company rather than you. Many years ago my '67 Beetle was hit by a guy changing lanes. He insisted on having me bring the car to a guy he knows for repairs. The repair was done well but in the accident one of the brand new tires was gouged. He put a balding tire of a different make on in its place and I had virtually no recourse to have it done correctly. Lesson learned.

No police.

That was many years ago in AB -- don't know the limit before police are called tehre, but here it's $1,000 unless the car isn't driveable.

Remember one time a guy raced through a stop sign and creamed me. I took his info, he took mine . . . and I didn't hear from him again. But because I had his info I called his insurance company and asked what was happening -- he hadn't reported it. I said something like "boy I sure hope I don't have to call a lawyer". The next day the inisurance guy called me back, said he'd talked to the guy, and to get the car fixed.

Hey guy, looks very nice. I was just wondering what percent tint you've got on the windows? It looks lighter that many others I've seen on this website, but it also looks like a very sunny day. I can only have 50% tint here in Minnesota, and I'm trying to find someone with pics @ that percent.

Just checked the tint laws in Mississippi from a tint website: "Must allow more than 28% of light in" So if your mom got the legal limit, your windows are darker than you thought.
