First post...

I took my M56S to the drags last Friday night. I had hoped for slightly quicker times, but overall I am pleased. I got in 4 passes, the last of which was the most interesting. I ran a newer GTO (400hp variety with twin hood scoops) with intake, exhaust and drag radials. I treed him and eeked out a quicker time to boot.

My question to you guys is this...

When I power brake my car, I can only get the revs up to 2100-2200. The track would hold a lot more than that, and my 60's were killing my ET. I am unsure if this is being limited electronically or what. Do any of you have any tricks to bypass this (disconnect a harness, pull a fuse, jumper something, etc)? I would welcome any input.

Also, I adjusted my times using the Dragtimes.com Density Altitude Calculator. My times adjusted down to [email protected], which is about right comparing against magazine times (which are also adjusted to std conditions). Now if I can just get those 60' times down...

That's real good, how close is it to the "tested" times on Car and Driver?

I spliced a switch between the brake lamp switch and the ECM. Allows me to powerbrake without power being cut. I could leave at full throttle if the tires allowed for it. Last time I went to the track I ran 8.6s @ 88 on a 2.2s 60' in 3,500 DA. Just kept spinning tires. Kinda wish Uprev would put the Burnout Mod option into our ROMs.

Andy, most mags had the M56 running around 13.3@108 (all were in the 13.2-13.5 range).

Thanks for the info DFW. I will crawl under my dash this weekend and scope out the switch. Are there multiple lines coming off it, or just 1? If there's just 1, I need to remember that I will lose my brake lights as well. If it's a harness with multiple lines, do you have a pin out, know the color coding or have a pic showing which lines you spliced? Any info would be helpful.

88mph in the 1/8th is impressive. Do you have a thread with your performance mods listed? I'd really like to take a look. I'd also welcome any advice you have... kind of a "if I had to do it all over again, this is what I would do" kind of a thing.

Thanks again for the input.

I have a mod thread somewhere but it is not completely current.

My car has been a bit of a freak though. It put down 382/390 untouched and 390/410 with a 2° timing advance, K&N drop-ins, and 170°F thermostat.

I then added...
HPS Silicone post maf intake tubes
2.5" mandrel bent custom mid pipes
Secondary Cat & Resonator delete
Jones Exhaust 2.5" X pipe
Badlands HPE Cutouts before stock axleback
Kept the factory mufflers
Bullydog GT 93 tune +4° advance
Bypassed the heater hoses to the throttle bodies

Put down 425/434 with the cutouts open

All 4th geat pulls on a Dynojet FWIW.

I have since removed the Bullydog tune for Uprev, swapped the cutouts and rear exhaust section for Magnaflow magnapacks where the resonators were.

If I were going to do it all over, I would have passed on the cutouts, gone straight for the Magnapacks and not run the Bullydog. The only reason I ran the Bullydog is because I had it left over from a previous Nissan.

I would have saved the money from the cutouts and put it toward an engine Z1 34 row setrab thermostatic oil cooler kit, 40K Tru-cool transmission cooler or Level10 valve body.

My newest mod is the smoked High/Low-Reverse clutch pack mod in the 7spd. It is slipping/flaring on the 3-4 shift at 3/4 throttle and above. My fix is going to be a lower mileage QX56 transmission with my manual shifter shaft and TCM swapped into it and plan to send my valve body to Level10 right after.
