So I took my HR to the track to see what kind of gains my few bolt ons had when it came to running the quarter. Now I am not going to lie and say I am the best drag racer because the first time I took it out to the track in stock for I was running mid 14s. Granted I have heard of others with better times so lets not go there. However this time at the track was well problematic to say the least instead of running faster I actually ran slower because I could never get good traction, spun 1st, 2nd, and chirped 3rd. My best run of the night was a 15. So here are my times for this time at the track definately nothing to brag about, but the damn thing has become just a little to touquey to make it easily dragable for me at least.

60ft 2.546330 6.7551/8 9.9861000 12.7161/4 15.024

I think the 60ft time tells the whole story for me.

If your curious I am running nismo r-tune intake, crawford hfc, stillen true dual, with an open diff

sounds like you need either better traction tires, downforce, lsd or pedal control.

i bought it that way. lol

My friends and I were debateing about that one. I personally think that stickier tires and a lsd would work wounders but until then if I go drag my car again I will have to learn how to launch the sob. 3k is too high and 2k I jump on too quickly so I get nasty wheel spin anyway. O well I am putting the car together for autocross anyway so it isnt like this is my end all be all.

yup an LSD is on top of the list, some drag radials or even better wrinkle wall slicks will help get off the line, a better test of your mods would be on a dyno

And if you plan to autocross the LSD is still on top off the list, in BM only stock LSD is legal, and of course cat back exhaust, drop in air filter are the only legal power mods, struts and front sway bar are all that's allowed for suspension mods in stock class, I focus on stock level as that's the only place 350's have managed to be competitive

since I was a idiot and for got to post the trap speed here it is.

94 mph.

Way too slow if you ask me, especially considering that some guys on my350 are saying they have been able to run down a quarter in stock form in 13.4 to 13.2 at around 110. I am going to the track again to see what I can run down with some race tires that I have and experiment with different launching styles. I will see if I can get some video too next time I am out there since a couple friends are going with me. If the next time around is anything like the last time the video will show you the nasty wheel spin the f'ed my day.

I know that in auto cross the suspension is more or less were its all at, but I still like to know that I am building a very well balanced machine and the 1/4 helps me figure some of that out. As for the dyno being a better teller of my performance I have always found the dyno to be 1. unreliable since some say one thing while others say somthing else (this won't stop me from using one to do tuning on a turbo) and 2. to me even in my research (despite what my professors and peers tell me) external validity will always be worth more then internal validity.

Definately think that some tires would help.

the key thing about dyno testing is to keep the variables to a minimum, if you have your baseline read on a mustang at one shop it's a good idea to get all subsequent testing done at the same shop on the same dyno to eleminate any potential variables, at the track there are too many variables especially for a novice drag racer, I know from my own experience that I can't make duplicate drag runs, I might be within a 10th of a second but the driver is far less acurate than a synomometer

Good point, but since I never took the time (and could never get a dyno) to do initial dyno runs I see the dyno area as being a worthless venture in seeing if mods have helped or hurt.

no 350z trapping 110 stock. hell even with every bolt on that would be a big leap. you should be 100+ easily.

just relaying what I am hearing from guys on my350.com in terms of 1/4 times. 13.2 being the best stock z time acheived. either way I am still a good 6 to 10 mph below what I should be and a good 3 seconds off the mark as well, all being lost in the wheel spin that occurs in 1st and 2nd.

Okay took my car out to the track again see if I could get some traction and get my 1/4 times to be were they should be. So this time rather then actually trying to do the regular race thing I just used the track as a stop watch so this time around I will be including my slow reaction times. Once again used stock tires but just experimented with different launching style finally found one that works fairly well for me. Here is the best time I got, comments questions or conserns are welcome.

All 350z's have a vlsd unless it's a base model.

You're not letting any air out of the tires are you? People used to think that running lower pressure (with radial tires) gave them better traction. Radial tires have the greatest contact patch when properly inflated, hence the best traction.

No I keep the tire pressure at the factory recommended levels. I hate seeing that pesky little tire pressure light that comes on when there is too little are in the tires. As vgVQ stated I need an lsd, so I am working on picking on up with in the next couple of months depending on how much money I can save.

Put on some tires and an LSD and you should be good to go.
