Have the 2009 Rogue, love it, but it has the whining noise when RPM around 3000. It becomes very loud when I drive highway with many up/down hills, so after testdrive with technician the dealer decided to replace my CVT.

Took the car to the dealer today. Really not sure what will happen after that, just hopefully I'll be lucky enough to get a good new CVT and a good tuning so there won't be any problems then.

Not sure how many days needed for this "big surgery", will update. Anyone also had the CVT replaced pls kindly reply and let me know what you feel after the replacement?

Thanks~

The CVT replacement for technicians is 9-10 hours under warranty time. If your Rogue is out of warranty, the labor should cost about 14 hours + the transmission itself.

All CVT transmissions are warrantied for 120k miles and I forgot how many years. The older Rogues are notorious for bad CVTs around 08-10 but the newer ones are more durable. I work at a Nissan dealer and used to work in the shop, we replace about 1-2 CVTs a week. Every. Nissan. With. CVT.

Even though the replacement of the transmission should take a day, the only problem I've seen is the availability of the transmissions because they're on National Backorder because of how many need to be replaced. Your Nissan might sit at the dealership for a while because they just can't get it in stock. They don't have any in their parts department, every transmission is FedEx'ed to them.

not true. that warranty stops at 2010. 2011+ are covered under standard warranty.

I apologize, I haven't seen any newer Rogues need a transplant yet since they've updated their CVTs.
I believe standard powertrain for Nissan is 5yr/60k.

Thanks much Dave, I'm feeling better, it's in warranty but at least I'm not the very rare case to get the transmission replaced,

I also think the parts maybe the issue because I've been waiting for something like 2 weeks already until being informed to drop off the car for repplacement.

Btw: Could you pls advice which items I should check the car after the repair? This is a mjor repair and my basic warranty will expire in a month or so, so i'm little worried if any potential affects on other parts might happen during the CVT replacement, then I can check right away to make sure they are all working fine...

Thank you in advance.

My 2008 has the same whine. I'm taking it in in the morning but i guess based on my wifes conversation with them, they're going to check the engine. (haha) I'll set them straight. Also has the dreaded clicking sound at low speed. We'll see what they say.

Hello, actually sometimes I can hear some random rattle noise also, but that only happens when I stop on the red light and in gear ('D' position). Has checked with technician and looks like it's because of the fuel pipe get loose somewhere. It sounds weird but that just guess they will check it out after the CVT replacement...

Glad to know Nissan (or rather Jatco) worked on the kinks in the CVT. My wife's Rogue is a 2012, so hopefully we've dodged the gremlins.

My CVT was replaced shorty after I purchased it late in 2008. The process took 5 hours, I dropped it off in the morning and it was done by 2:00, the tech's said it was a simple process because it is a compact, sealed unit. The new CVT has been flawless for almost years now. I would say there aren't any potental issues to worry about- provided the new CVT runs flawlessy and quietly you will be good to go, no point in getting nervous and imaging all sorts of other things that could go wrong.

The one good thing about this quite common process is the tech's should be very experienced and perform this as a routine work order. And be thankful these transmission's are sealed, non-servicable units that are being replacd with brand new units -no rebuilds or rebuilt parts to worry about.

Certain transmissions are remanned.. I don't think the Rogue has many, our Pathfinders have remanned replacements since a lot of them go bad (tsb on trans cooler failure)...

The Rogue is an incredibly reliable vehicle, the 2.5 4 cylinder is very bulletproof and doesnt have any issues from what I've seen. The Murano's have a few head gaskets...timing chain rattles...engine leaks... the 3.5's aren't perfect.

um ask them if your Vin# is on the NTB11-015A TSB, it's for the engine oil cooler o-ring replacement.
If not you should be good to go.

Hi guys, finally, got the new CVT today, took a test drive for an hour it works perfectly. No whining noise on 3000 RPM, and even the brake goes smoother, something needs to mention is when doing quick stop (decrease speed quickly), there's a noticable little whining sound, and technician said it's normal, and I think maybe that's the way CVT helps decreasing speed. But there's another small issue so will pick the car later. So, major operation finished, successfully (I think, LOL), and want to thank everybody giving advices and sharing experiences!!

Dave1320, My car seems to be not on that TSB, but wanna thank you so much for the information!
