Go to the drive thru car wash. You can also buy a set of engine cleaning brushes from summit racing or jcwhitney or something that will clean out the passages better. For chemicals to use, try some parts store degreaser that comes as a concentrate. Apply that stuff liberaly and let it soak a little and then blast it with soapy water. If possible, hot water will work better. If you wanted to, you could hook up a garden hose to your clothes washer hot water spicket if it's like ours and stick it out a window to where you'd do it (I know my mom wouldn't like this but)

Use a couple gallons of gasoline in a tub, with some rubber gloves on and some brushes.

thats the worst idea i've ever heard. unless you mean like a keg tub, outside. But if you meant bath tub... shudder...

Gasoline is a little more potent than simple green too... not safe to work around for long periods of time.
