I dropped by a Nissan dealer today - to take a look at and a drive a Cube. They had about 10 on the lot. Of course, I had a salesman waiting for me to get out of my car. we exchanged names and I told him that I wanted a vehicle with a high roofline and good fuel economy, the Cube interested me. He replied that they had one in the showroom and we should take a look there first.

It was a fully optioned SL in Pearl White. The first thing that struck me was how good the white looked! I was able to slide right into it with no bending my neck out of the way to clear the roof (I have a bum neck). The seats were very comfortable and the styling and ergonomics felt good too. It was stickered at $25K+!!! Good Lord!

I tell him that I wanted a S with the 6 speed. He replied that he had one and would bring it up. He pulled up in it and I get in for a drive. Turns out he brought me a base model and lamely tried to pass it off as a S. What, this won't occur to me later? The Cube was white (I really like that color) the outside mirrors were black, no cruise, no chrome door handles inside... come on.

Anyway, it drove and handled well. I did keep forgetting that I could shift one more time after 5th. I liked the car alot. Funny thing about when it was brought up for me to drive: I get in and he had the radio is set to a local classic rock station (I'm 48). Part of me wanted to switch it to the local hip hop station, but my guy was doing his part to make me comfortable, so I resisted.

I'll stay in the market for a Cube, but this salesman will not get my business - I did not like the stunt that they pulled with the base. Kept tellin me they could add the cruise. The sales manager said that they don't get many with the 6 speed in a S. I told him that I wasn't picky with the colors, I had time and would buy the car that I wanted. There are two other dealers within an hour's drive. The base was stickered at $16K. Had a couple of packages... I consider that high. When I am ready, I'll play the three dealers against one another and see how it pans out.

It'll be a little bit, but I see myself driving one, really neat cars.

George

Actually, the 6 speed is listed as standard for the S and the CVT as an option in the 2010 catalog, and I found two S models with the MT - one each at the other two nearby dealers - on the net.

The base was listed as 6 speed only and the SL only had the CVT. Seems the S can go either way, but most of them are built with the CVT.

OK, so that's new for 2010.

For 2009, the 6-speed had no letter designation.

Nope. You got a base model though... Not an "S".

The base model comes with a 4-speaker stereo, cruise, chrome handles.

There's no "upgraded" seats in any Cube, to my knowledge.

not going to argue with you since I am not an expert and you probably have a source for your information but I was for sure there were different levels for the 2009 in the same way as the 2010. At least when I was shopping for one cause I wanted all the tech upgrade but none of the dealers in my area could get one without going to the SL which you can only get in an auto. Saleman said the best thing to do is get the S if you want a 6 spd.

It won't say S or SL on the butt of the car like altimas and sentras do but the seat fabric changes from the base to the S to the krom......but again you might have information I don't have so thanks for the update I will have to go back and tell the dealer he is wrong.....you know how they are sometimes LOL. Later.

AZ... I did my homework comparing the 2009 with the 2010. i started my search in late 2009 and didn't buy until Feb of 2010. There was 4 models in 2009.

Base= CVT or 6 Speed1.8S= CVT or 6 Speed1.8SL = CVT onlyKrom= CVT only.

I don't have the brochures here at home, but I'll grab them off my desk and scan if you don't believe.

there were a few changes made to the 1.8S from 2009 to 2010, they were change in stereo from 4 speaker system to 6 speaker system, steering wheel controls for stereo, built in bluetooth.

in 2009 the base only had 2 speaker stereo and the 1.8S had 4, I think for 2010, the base moved up to 4, but i'm not positive.

To the OP... it will be hard to find a 6 speed. i had a tough time here in jersey. I wanted a 2010 1.8S, steel grey with black int. with 6 speed. There was only 1 in the tri-state area... i searched the dealer inventories at ever dealer (approx. 50 or so) within 50 miles of me in the tri-state area.

Like I said, you have a 2010.

I'm pulling my info directly from Nissan's website, guys.

EDIT: OK, got my answer.

We bought one of the first Cubes in the state. The earliest run of cars were NOT available with a 6-speed on the S-trim model. In fact, initially there was no Krom model. That changed midway into the model year, as very, very few people were buying the base models.

So, you guys are correct for the most part.

BTW, our base model has 4 speakers. I'd be curious to see what's considered "upgraded" seat fabric. According to the Nissan site, the Krom has a two-tone seat fabric, but that's the only upgrade I see.
