after waiting for almost 4 years for this swap, i figure, "what the hey", i better get cracking on this swap before the whole 240sx bandwagon jumping scene get a little out control....

here's where i'm stumped, after pouring in 3.5 quart as recommended, the dipstick did not register at all. i keep pouring more oil in and got to a point where right now i have about 6 qt and having the dipstick register only half way from full. i bang the hell out of my oil pan for the reason of the pick up problem, but i know there's in no way i bang it so it can consume 6.5-7 qt. no oil is leaking whatsoever.

i still have to figure if my timing chain tensioner is bad or not from the really loud noise coming from the front of the valve cover, but first i want to know what's with his ridiculous oil capacity i have going on.

most of the swaps i've done, the motor ate a lot of oil at the beginning. bearings like to soak it up if they've been sitting for a while. You'd also be surprised as to how many secret places the engine has to hide oil. When you drained it before the swap, you got quite bit of oil. And I can almost bet that it had been previously drained before it was shipped.

Another example is this L28 I pulled apart a few months ago. The motor had been sitting for years, and had had the oil drained out of it a long time ago. I still got 3 more quarts out of it. And even after I drained it, I still got puked on by the motor with more oil

i wish it was true that the engine was drained, but that bad boy still had the original oil in it. but either way how you put it, it's hard to believe the engine is hiding almost 3 qt of oil.

yeah, it is wierd but dipsticks dont lie, its not like the oil is pouring on the ground, you would notice that, think about all the spaces around the valve springs and stuff, inside the oil pump, it has alot of places to hide like bart said
