I have a 2008 with the Bose amp and subwoofer and a MTX TE601D amp driving 2 12" subs. When there is really punchy bass im and driving at just about any speed I can feel car jerk to the punchy bass. besides the jerking of the car, only the interior lights suffer with some dimming. When im at idle the tachometer can fluxuate 150-200rpms of change. Would adding an additional battery help or a bigger battery or are there any other solutions besides replacing the $$alternator$$? Thanks

Battery? Not gonna do much. You have a problem with amperage and stable voltage so that means you'll need either another alternator or bigger alternator. I'm having the same issue with only 1 compact MTX subwoofer. Here's an example:

or (but I don't think you need that much):

Honestly, being an audio guy I hardly think the TE601D is pulling that much juice to cause a problem. Before upgrading an alternator, I'd first look into a few things. How is your amp ground? Remember your ground is actually the amp's "input" for power the the big power wire is the "Return" wire to the battery. If you have a bad ground, it could cause a whole bunch of issues.

The next thing I would suggest is doing the big 3 upgrade. Here's a good how-to that explains it in more detail.

It makes a big improvement. I have it done on my lancer, and run ~2000 watts RMS on my stock 120 amp alternator. I hardly see dimming in that thing. When I upgrade the Rogue's audio I'll be sure to the big 3 as well.

I'm just curious why you're still using the wimpy Bose sub? You've mentioned the make and model amp, but no details on the 2 additional woofers other than their size.

-The subwoofers are Hifonics BRZ12D4's.

-I didnt feel like taking out the stock bose sub and it sounds fine with 3 subs in it.

-This is what the ground looked like before I sanded it down earlier today. Location of the ground is by the back seats, close the the wheel well.

Sorry, I must be getting old (turning 53 in 2 weeks). I'm not familiar with Hifonics. I'm more of a Cerwin Vega fanboy. http://cerwinvegamobile.com/Subwoofers/menu-id-14

Hifonics is a decent brand. They're owned by Maxxsonics who also own a few other companies now. Crunch, MB Quart, and Autotek. I used to run a Brutus BXi606 back in the day. Nice amp, however they tend to run a little hot and not as efficient as other brands.

I still recommend doing the big 3 to stabilize your voltage. If you continue to have issues beyond that, you may want to look into using a different grounding point or even an H.O. alternator.

Please do not use a capacitor... they're worthless imo.

The Subs are good(not perfect) and the MTX amp is great. I have the amp mounted on top of my spare tire with 3m double sided vhb tape, been on 5 hour constant road trip and it didnt overheat. Ill will go for a test drive today after sanding down my ground connection points and if that doesnt help then I will upgrade "the big 3" over Winter break.

Went on a test today with the newly sanded ground terminal point, cant even notice the car jerking to the bass and my lights dont dim as much. I still plan on upgrading the big 3 and replacing my battery(5 years old) to get even better efficiency for my future plans of a bigger amp and a stealth automated led back up bar :).

Glad to hear it man! Grounds are usually the cause of most issues. :)
