havent been able to pass inspection in 10 months. massachusetts emmision is a *&%$#. there are 2 tubes comin off ya charcoal canister. they go to a little white valve called a vaccuum cut valve. 4 lines come off it..1 to the air, 1 to the fuel of the canister. and 2 hoses goin to I have no idea where..I am about to change that valve cuz it is cracked. I think that should take care of the p1447. I still need help on how to clean your egr valve and tubes that go to the intake..could someone out there please help me w/ these problems. im only gettin 18 mile to the gallon on teh highway which is bad. I need serious help but everyone on this site seems to be busy..just dont wanna spend crazy money on a new egr and a new egrc solenoid valve when all I might have to do is clean the egr tubes to pass inspection and get better milelage. any help on checking the egr and cleanin the tubes would be GREATLY appreciated. thx people

will post the results on the p1447 after i change teh cut valve..hopefully thats the problem.

p.s. massachusetts emmisions is a effin son of a &*((

18 mpg?? You must be on drugs, my QX4 window sticker from the dealership says 15 mpg and in reality, I get about 12, 13 mpg The most i've ever seen was 16 mpg from a guy who had Warn hubs unlocked up front and drove 65 mph behind a semi truck.

No my CEI is throwing the same code. That along with a knock sensor code. Been trying to figure this thing out. I was hoping if someone else had made any progress.

I am battling a P1447 on my 97 Maxima with 130K miles. Two years ago, the codes were all about the EGR system. My mechanic actually removed the upper intake manifold and routed out the EGR port. He said it was completely blocked off with heavy black crust. The year before that, he partially unblocked the port without removing the upper intake by routing it out with a piece of speedometer cable chucked into a hand drill. You may want to try the hand drill method first before tearing your upper intake off. I still have not heard if you were successful in solving your P1447 problem.9/5/07 UPDATE: I replaced the charcoal cansister and the P1447 code went out. I bought a replacement purge valve, but didn't need it because I put power across the two poles and heard a clicking sound, which means it is working properly according the they guy at the Nissan dealer parts counter. One of the hoses connecting to the charcoal cansister had some loose charcoal in it that I removed by flicking it around a little. Now I have a P0100 MAF circuit malfunction code to contend with. Wish me luck!

I did get roughly 22 mpg once on a trip to LA. I used the cruise control the whole way there and probbly had a nice tail wind to boot. But I usually average around 14-15 overall and run the AC about 90% of the time and usually buzz around the hwys at 80.

I'll bet 18 is easy to get if you actually go only 60 or so. They're not geared for really cruising fast on highways. I have a feeling it's perfect around 55 mph. I seem to get like 16-17 mpg when I drive out to Tecate on the winding 94. Curves are so bad usually can't go faster than 50 on the straightaways and spend most of the time doing 40ish.
