tone down the power steering? Constant inputs to keep it straight.

2105 Rogue SL. 55K miles on it. From day one, the electric power steering has felt over boosted. Steering is extreeeeemly light, and I'm not really "driving" as much as I'm "compensating" to keep the car moving ahead in a straight line. Back and forth, back and forth, and repeat! Two different sets of tires have been tried and the car is still an exercise in trying keep the car going straight down the road.

Does anyone else find this in their Rogue? Is there some sort of fix to enhance straight-line stability, or maybe to possibly tone down the boost that the power steering gives (if the power steering actually is the issue)?

As an asides, although maybe relevant...when in a parking spot, reversing straight out from the spot, & then cutting the wheel to turn the car 90º, when turning the steering wheel rapidly, there is a relatively loud buzzing (sounds electrical) coming from something steering-related. Sounds more like it's in the column, but could be under the hood. it happens both in reverse, and then again when in drive, turning it rapidly to aim the front end straight down the parking aisle. I brought it in to Nissan when I first noticed it, and they say the noise is normal. I've not driven a Rogue other than mine, so I don't know if they all do this.

I really like the car, but to me, the constant corrections to keep this particular vehicle straight are its number one weakness.

Any thoughts?

mac, If it's designated-capable of "Variable assist" , sounds like it's not "controlled" properly BY the controller (module here ,usually). Find out if any "re-program/update " can be done . Definitely test others-even if you HAVE to 'pretend' at a nearby Dealership to do comparisons.Remote possibility is changing ,slightly, the rack pre-load. Tires , I had Dunlop SP5000's on a car doing exactly what your talking,it was a CONSTANT chore keeping in lane , to correct - it would "overshoot" and I'd have to go back & forth CONTINUOUSLY! :lolling: Impossible to relax or even lookout for directions & landmarks ahead. Then I put on Goodyear F1 GSD3 Eagles - rode on rails. Tires = a crapshoot though.I sympathize, and I think "electronic steerig" sucks compared to "old school" hydraulic. My sister- Camry was "her car :rotfl " and looking for a third one , we both drove test on a "off the hauler- 3mi odo" at Toyota lot. It was all over the road (new tires? maybe) but salesman bragged electric steer.

Sorry you are having drivability issues. I have a 2012 rogue and have experienced none of the issues you described. Did it do this from day 1? My vehicle shipped with Continental tires. When it was time to change, I went with Yokahama Avid Ascend because the selector on tire rack identified that as the proper balance of wet traction and treadwear for my needs.
